The past couple of years have changed the movie industry dramatically, with fewer hits coming out and production becoming increasingly computerized, but this year the list of releases is quite compelling. While I cannot say what to expect, 2023 has so many new releases in store, whether your favorite pastime is watching comedy, horror, or adventure flicks.

Starting with a fan favorite, the Marvel Universe is planning on releasing at least three new movies this year. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is on track to be released on February 17th with Paul Rudd starring as he explores the Quantum Realm. Another favorite, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, scheduled for May 5th, stars Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, who must embark on yet another mission to save the universe. One final major movie Marvel is releasing is The Marvels on July 28th. This movie will shift focus back to Captain Marvel, who has been on the back burner for quite some time.

Along with these new films from current franchises, a few classics are also being released this year, one of the most well-known being Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, starring Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, who is ready to solve more international cases. In addition, the new Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is being released on June 30, featuring Harrison Ford, who explores the further adventures of daredevil archaeologist Indiana Jones.

2023 is also bringing forth a wide number of horror movies if that’s more your genre. If you like doll horror, then Megan is for you: a story about how a robotic, anthropomorphic doll becomes a little girl’s best friend. If conventional horror isn’t your thing, but murder mysteries are, then The Pale Blue Eye may catch your attention. This movie, starring Christian Bale, is a murder mystery revolving around a Boston army with cadet Edgar Allen Poe (as in the short story writer you’ve probably read in English class). I just watched this movie this past weekend, and it’s definitely a good Friday night movie with lots of plot twists!

Regardless of what type of movie you prefer, 2023 has some great ones to enjoy!
