As Christmas approaches, we are all eager to spend time with our family and unwind during our well-earned holiday. Families celebrate Christmas with a wide variety of traditions. While some are out and about taking in the fresh Christmas air, some choose to stay at home and curl up by the fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa. Whether they’re in your own home or someone else’s, the thrill of holiday decorations is unmatched. We all get that cozy feeling when we see lights, decked-out trees, and holly-covered buildings. The Media Office looked into some of the most beautiful (and joyful) locations to visit over the holiday season right here in North Carolina.

If snow-covered mountains are your favorite view in the winter, then Asheville is the perfect place to visit! The Biltmore Estate–known as America’s largest home–is one of the most visited places during Christmas. This event is kicked off every year with a 35-foot tree-raising ceremony! In addition to this, more than 100 other Christmas trees line the halls of the Biltmore. This is the most magical place to be, with more than 100,000 lights and 25,000 ornaments.

If the mountains aren’t your vibe and you’re more of a city person, then Charlotte is your go-to! At the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, you will feel like you’re in a winter wonderland. With dazzling lights, holiday decorations, and a sparkling fountain, this garden is great for those wanting to walk around and enjoy the life around them. While you’re there, feel free to gather around their large bonfire and cook some s’mores or visit the Garden Store and do some last-minute gift shopping! No matter who you are, this would be a wonderful holiday visit!

To fully immerse yourself in that Christmas spirit, you may want to visit Christmas Town in McAdenville. While you walk past homes fully decorated in the Christmas spirit, listen for the seasonal music playing all down the roads. If you get hungry walking, enjoy a fine dining experience at Terra Mia Ristorante. Make sure to stop by Mona’s Boutique and Gifts, The Modest Market, and Revolver Records if you enjoy shopping. Walking through Christmas Town will feel just like a Hallmark movie!

Regardless of where you go or what you do during this holiday, it is a special time for everyone, and we hope you enjoy your break as much as we will!
