This week’s Senior Spotlight features student Lillie Medlin. Having joined the Rocky Mount Academy family in 6th grade, Lillie has found her home with the Class of 2017. Lillie’s perpetually joyful disposition makes her an important member of this year’s graduating class. Known for her determination in the classroom and when taking care of her show lambs, Lillie is surely respected by her peers. Her diligence is always rewarded, and when she is recognized for an achievement, everyone knows it is well deserved. If you ask any teacher, they are bound to say that there is something especially lovable about Lillie’s sweet, often candid, personality. Not surprisingly, her fun-loving tendencies have made her a face that many are familiar with on campus. No matter the situation, you can always count on Lillie’s presence to make your smile that much bigger. Her natural ability to connect, with light-hearted persuasion, to any and every kind of person is quality that is admired by many. When asked about the kind of friend that Lillie has been to her, Rachel Scott stated, “Lillie is definitely one of the funniest and craziest people I know. I am in study hall with her and a few of our special friends and she never fails to make us laugh. She is one of the sweetest friends I know and I am so glad to have a friend like her.” Everyone that knows her, knows that this is true of Lillie, and her ability to see the best in others is something that her friends easily recognize.

Aside from balancing a difficult academic workload while reaching her studious goals, livestock has played an important role in Lillie’s life. Last year, the Eagle Examiner featured Lillie in an article which took a better look into her great success of winning Grand Champion in the Senior Showmanship category. This past week, Lillie was awarded this title, among many others, again at the NC State Fair. Lillie’s commitment to doing her very best is evident in all aspects of her life which makes her successful whenever she takes on a new challenge.

  1.     Name your most fond memory of your time at RMA.

  1.     What is your favorite class that you have taken at RMA?

Obviously every math class with Mrs. Helms, or either AP Psych because I can actually answer the powerpoint questions unlike all the other AP classes I had with Mr. Stone.

  1.     Where are you applying to college?

UNCW, NCSU, Meredith, and ECU.

  1.     What is your biggest pet peeve?

I hate when people call macaroni and cheese “Mac and Cheese.”

  1.     Favorite long lunch destination?

I guess Chick Fil A because that is Connor’s favorite.

  1.     Growing up, what did you aspire to be?

I always wanted to be a baker and have a bakery that looked like a 3 layer cake.

Biology.

  1.     A quote that inspires you?

One that inspires me is “the only time ‘success’ comes before ‘work’ is in the dictionary.”

I was honored to have been a Graduation Marshall last year.

  1.  What will you miss most about RMA next year?

I’m really going to miss all of my friends I’ve gotten so close with over the past 7 years of being at RMA. I’ll also miss the close relationships I’ve had with my teachers. And of course…Mrs. Helms
