Top 10 Shows to Look for this Fall

With the beginning of a new season comes the onset of new shows. September and October are full of new seasons, new scenery, and new television hits. Favorite shows return and new shows premiere. Here are the Media Office’s top five returning and new shows premiering this fall.

Returning Shows:

  1. Scandal: Scandal is an American political thriller produced by Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy. The show takes place in Washington, D.C. and focuses on Olivia Pope’s crisis management firm, Olivia Pope & Associates, and its staff, as well as staff at the White House. The show first premiered on ABC in 2012 and is returning for its fourth season this fall.
  2. Modern Family: Modern Family is an American sitcom and a family favorite. The show takes place in Los Angeles and follows Jay Pritchett and his family. The show is presented in mockumentary style, where the characters frequently talk directly to the camera. It premiered in 2009 and is returning for its sixth season.
  3. Chrisley Knows Best: Chrisley Knows Best is a reality show that follows a wealthy family from Georgia. The show follows Todd Chrisley and his family, a multi-millionaire household. The show involves comedic, dramatic, and real-life problems that everyone faces. The show received mixed reviews when it first aired in 2014 but was renewed for a second season coming this fall.
  4. The Voice: The Voice is a singing competition where contestants are blindly judged and chosen solely on their sound. The Voice has an all-star judging cast of Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Pharrell Williams, and Gwen Stefani. Previous judges include CeeLo Green, Christina Aguilera, Shakira, and Usher. The show first premiered in 2011 and is returning for its seventh season.
  5. The Walking Dead: The Walking Dead is a post-zombie apocalypse action show. The show is based off of a comic book series by Robert Kirkman. The show has constant action and drama as it follows a group of apocalypse survivors as they try to find a way to live in this new harsh world. The show originally premiered in 2010 and is returning for its much anticipated fifth season in October.

New Shows:

  1. Stalker: Stalker is an upcoming drama television series about detectives who investigate stalking incidents – including voyeurism, cyber harassment and romantic fixation – for the Threat Assessment Unit of the LAPD. The Show was picked up by CBS and is said to air the first of October.
  2. Gotham: Gotham is an upcoming superhero show that follows Bruce Wayne and Detective James Gordon pre-Batman. It shows the beginning of Wayne and Gordon’s relationship as Gordon takes care of the young orphan Wayne. The first season will start in late September on Fox.
  3. Red Band Society: Red Band Society is a comedy-drama television series focused on a group of teenagers living together as patients in a hospital’s pediatric ward. The show follows the lives of teenagers facing life changing diseases and how they deal with them. The series has received mixed reviews since its premiere in late September on Fox.
  4. How to Get Away with Murder: How to Get Away with Murder is a legal drama series. The series follows a law professor at a prestigious Philadelphia University and her class as they become entwined in a murder plot. The show was created by Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy’s producer Shonda Rhimes and will premiere after Scandal on September 25th.
  5. Utopia: Utopia is a bold new series based on the hit Dutch program of the same name. Watch what happens as 15 pioneering Americans wave goodbye to the lives they’ve known, move to a remote location, and set out to create a new society from scratch. With limited supplies, wildly diverse backgrounds, and zero bathrooms, the show is filmed 24/7 and the colonist can be voted off and replaced by viewers. The series premiered on Fox in early September.
