During May of 2013, Safyre Terry’s life was forever changed due to an arson fire that took place at her apartment in New York.  The fire killed Safyre’s three younger siblings, Layah Terry (3), Michael Terry (2), and Donavan Duell (11 months), along with her father, David Terry (32), who died with Safyre in his arms protecting her from the deadly flames.  Safrye suffered burns covering over 75 percent of her body inevitably losing her right hand and left foot. Due to her mother’s suspected link to the cause of the fire, Safyre now resides under the custody of her loving aunt, Liz Dolder. Safrye has undergone over 50 surgeries to graft skin on her burns.

Her aunt, Dolder, said, “Safyre lost everything – her father, her mother, her sister, her brothers, her home, her favorite toy, her favorite outfit – everything that was familiar to her. She even lost the one thing we all take for granted – her reflection. But she wakes every morning with a smile on her face. She is the true definition of hope, faith and love.” Safyre truly resembles the sense of hope during this Christmas season with her one wish she posted on Facebook: To get enough Christmas Cards to fill up her card tree. The Facebook post then went viral and it has been said that Safyre has received thousands upon thousands of cards along with small gifts.  But each card means so much more to Safyre than just a piece of paper, it means that someone loves her and cares enough to send her a card. A Youcaring.com crowdfunding site has even been created to help raise money to pay for Safyre’s many surgeries.  It is estimated that the account has raised over $174,000.

This young girl is a true inspiration and encompasses nothing but good qualities that make her unique.  She doesn’t hide from the cameras or the world, but rather, the cameras bring her out to be the sweet girl she is.

If you would like to make Safyre a Christmas card to be placed on her tree, you can mail it to P.O. Box 6126, Schenectady, NY, 12306.  Each and every card will be cherished by this precious angel and is a great way for you to spread the Christmas spirit.
