On Monday, October 5th, the Varsity Girls Volleyball team was finally victorious after a rough season. The Eagles defeated the St. Thomas More Chancellors in a five set game, 25-15, 23-24, 18-25, 25-9, and in a tiebreaker set score of 15-10. The first victory of the season has been a long time coming for this team and the players couldn’t be more pleased. Senior Katie Gutshall stated, “I slept with a smile on my face last night. I’m ecstatic that we won.”

Senior captains Mackenzie Lambert, Mackenzie Thompson, and Katie Gutshall each played an instrumental part in leading their team to victory. Throughout the season, Mackenzie Lambert’s consistent serves and deep shots have helped the team immensely while Mackenzie Thompson’s setting at the net has helped Katie and freshman Tiffany Chandler accumulate an impressive number of kills throughout the season. Katie Gutshall’s strong serves and kills also helped the team overcome the Chancellors. Another senior, Emma Grace Sprinkle, has proven that her specialty shot is blocking at the net.

Last night, the Lady Eagles exhibited their individual strengths that helped contribute to a win for the team. Mackenzie Lambert 16 service points, 6 aces, and 3 kills, while Katie Gutshall had 15 service points, 5 aces, and 9 kills. While Mackenzie Thompson had 14 service points, she also helped the Lady Eagles move the ball around the court successfully with 15 assists. Junior Bridget Ward had 8 service points and 8 digs. Last night’s performance involved lots of on court communication between players and was the best game of their season. As the season comes to a close, the Eagles are hopeful that they will beat Oakwood on Thursday at home. Come out and support the Eagles on Thursday at 6:00!
