RMA Football Team: Still Undefeated after Big Win

Last Friday, the RMA football team recorded their biggest win of the season thus far; beating the home side, Arendell Parrot Academy, 59-42. Both teams entered the game at 6-0, tied for first in the conference. The heart and soul of Parrot’s defense is a 300 pound defensive tackle. The Eagles had to focus on blocking him, so running backs Jacob Hunter and Rod White could get to the edge. The Eagles’ defense had to focus on Parrot’s passing game, and not allowing their running back to get to the outside. “We just had to be able to tackle” said Kyle Holland, when asked what the defense was focused on. With both game plans put in place, a battle between the two top teams was underway.

The Eagles’ defense was able to force a 3 and out on the first possession of the game, giving the Eagles their first opportunity to score. On the second play for the Eagles’ offense, Quarterback Brice Andracchio broke his leg after a muffed snap. Despite being in pain, Brice was able to push through and play the rest of the game on a broken leg. Right before the half, senior Trevor Graham scored on a 60 yard interception return for a touchdown, but it was called back after an illegal block, resulting in a 22-8 halftime lead for the Eagles. The third quarter was tough, with many players suffering from cramps, and senior Jay Mills hurting his knee, sidelining him for the rest of the game. Despite the setbacks, the Eagles were able to make key defensive stops and were able to keep the offense rolling. Sophomore running back Rod White led the way with 17 carries 149 yards and 2 touchdowns. Close behind, Junior Jacob Hunter finished with 16 carries 127 yards and 4 touchdowns. With this key conference win, the Eagles further improve their record to 7-0.

After the big win on Friday, the Eagles were able to take sole possession of first place in the conference. Now, RMA looks forward to this Friday when they host Southampton Academy, who is tied for second in the conference with a record of 6-1. Not only is this a big game, but it is also senior night. Come out and support football team and their seniors as they continue their quest for a second straight state championship on Friday, October 17th at 7:30.
