This week’s spotlight is shining on the easy going and always lovable Jack Pittman. A member of the RMA family since lower school, Jack has proved himself to be an integral part of the class of 2021. Known for his athleticism, academic strength, and upbeat attitude, Jack is an all around great person who leaves a lasting impression on all he meets.

Jack has chosen to challenge himself his senior year, currently taking French 4, AP Calculus, AP English, Media Office, AP Psychology, and–a favorite of his–ceramics with Mrs. Hunter. His all time favorite class, however, was Geometry with Mrs. Meadows in ninth grade. He is sure to balance all of these difficult courses by participating in the many clubs RMA has to offer, including SGA, of which he serves as Vice President, and Media Office, where he holds the title of Copy Editor. Outside of class, Jack is known for his athletic abilities. Over the years, Jack has been an integral part of the cross country, soccer, swim, golf, and track teams.

Jack is well known in the community as well as RMA. Jack works as a cart boy at Benvenue Country Club, helping maintain its beautiful golfing facilities. When asked about his experience working at Benvenue, Jack says that, “I have worked at Benvenue as a cart boy and in the golf shop for two years now, and I could not recommend the job any more for a high schooler. You get to make money, meet new people, and the benefits are unreal!”

Sadly, Jack will be leaving the RMA family at the end of May to begin his journey as a college student. Apart from all that he brings to RMA and the community of Rocky Mount, I know his absence will be felt by those who are lucky enough to call him a friend. When asked about Jack, his good friend Ellis Daughtridge says, “I have known Jack for as long as I can remember, and he’s had my back since day one. He is a kind person who has never met a stranger.”

  • What will you miss the most about RMA? I think I will most miss being able to get to know every person in such a small environment.
  • What’s a quote you live by? “Get busy living or get busy dying.”
  • What TV show are you watching? What’s your favorite show of all time? I’m watching Community right now and I love it, but my all time favorite is either Breaking Bad or Ozark.
  • What do you hope to be doing in the future, college wise? I’d like to go to UNC, but I also applied to Wyoming, Alabama, and NC State. I’m not sure what to major in other than something business related.
