The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on September 20, 2020. This year, the awards were accepted via virtual speeches due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately, the nominees still decided to dress for the occasion! Here is a ranking of the Emmy winners’ looks, from worst to best!

  1. Jeremy Strong (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series – Succession)

This look was definitely not my favorite. I was not a fan of the brown suit, and the tie around his neck just looks messy and unkempt to me. I think he could’ve gone for a more sophisticated outfit, or even just changed the color of the suit to something brighter and made it more fun!

  1. Catherine O’Hara (Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series – Schitt’s Creek

I think O’Hara looks absolutely stunning, but I would’ve liked to have seen something more exciting. I don’t enjoy the all-black look because it feels too safe, though it is certainly elegant.

  1. Eugene Levy (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series – Schitt’s Creek)

Levy looks very smart and classy. His suit is monochromatic, which I think is something different. However, I do feel like this outfit is a little boring and left something to be desired. I enjoy the use of navy instead of black, though!

  1. Annie Murphy (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series – Schitt’s Creek)

Annie Murphy looked fabulous! I love when women wear blazers, and I think Murphy had a perfect blend of feminine and masculine styles. Underneath her blazer, she sported a black top with see-through fabric throughout the torso area. Once again, I wish she had taken a risk and not worn black!

  1. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie – Watchmen)

This outfit was great! I think he looked handsome and clean cut, and I like that his suit isn’t plain and boring (many men fall into this trap at award ceremonies). I do think there is room for improvement, however, as we’ve seen the pinstripe suit many times!

  1. Dan Levy (Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series – Schitt’s Creek)

Dan Levy looked amazing in his grey suit paired with a matching skirt. Just like his co-star, Annie Murphy, Levy blended femininity with masculinity. It worked very well for him, in my opinion. I also like his choice of shoe with high socks. I thought this outfit was a risk with a high reward!

  1. Regina King (Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie – Watchmen) and Uzo Aduba (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie – Mrs. America)

Both actresses paid tribute to Breonna Taylor with their Emmy looks. I love when celebrities use their platforms to speak out on issues they feel strongly about, and I thought this was a perfect idea. Aduba kept it simple with her black tee sporting Taylor’s name, whereas King added some more glam with a hot pink suit over a shirt with artwork of Taylor. Both women looked gorgeous while also making an admirable statement!

  1. Julia Garner (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series – Ozark)

I am obsessed with this outfit! Garner wore a beautiful white Chanel dress with layered pearl necklaces on top. She also added a pearl clip to her hair to complete the look. The actress looked angelic in her monochromatic, vintage inspired gown, and it paired perfectly with her pale complexion and light blonde hair!

  1. Zendaya (Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series – Euphoria)

Finally, I think Zendaya was the best dressed celebrity of the evening! The young starlet wore a black and white bedazzled top connected to a long, polka dotted skirt. She absolutely shined, and I thought she made the most unique fashion choice of the winners. The ensemble had a youthful energy, which is appropriate, as Zendaya became the youngest person to ever win for Outstanding Lead Actress!
