Senior and their families recognized for their years contributed to the soccer program

The varsity boys’ soccer team fought hard this past Friday night against rival team, Faith Christian School. The team gave it their all, ending the night with a tied score of 1-1. The eagles were cheered on by a huge crowd of Rocky Mount Academy families and friends. The night included Senior Night festivities as well. Seniors Colby Kirkpatrick, Brandon Griffin, Collin Richardson, Christian Toney Caleb Smith, and Linwood Jones were honored along with their parents.

In the first half of the game, both teams’ defenders were able to keep each other from scoring as there was not a single goal until the beginning of the second half. The first goal scored was by the patriot’s #7 Ben Reeps. Besides this one break-down, seniors Colby Kirkpatrick and Caleb Smith and junior Davis Brown along with freshmen, Marcus Lerro were able to hold down the defense for the eagles, stopping many passes from being made by the Patriots.

Although, the eagles’ only goal was scored by Faith Christian defender, #1 Jacob Pridgen, the boys were able to keep the ball on the patriot’s end of the field for the majority of the game. Had it not been for Faith’s goalie, Mathew Sanford, the eagles could have scored numerous goals that could have resulted in a win for the eagles. With hardly any time at all left in the second half, RMA junior Grayson Reams received the second yellow card of the game, resulting in a free kick for the patriots. As the patriots were unable to put the ball in the goal, the eagles were given a second chance to make a comeback in overtime.

Overtime led to another hard fight by both teams as each desperately wanted to come out on top in this cross-town rivalry. RMA came close to scoring another goal in the second overtime half as junior and newcomer to the team, Jack Thorpe went for a shot that came close to another goal for the eagles, but was deflected by the crossbar. At the end of the game, Grayson Reams received his second yellow card which resulted in a suspension from the eagles’ next game on Monday. The varsity soccer team played great against the patriots and hopefully they can bring home a win on October 9th when they go head to head again at Faith Christian School. Until then RMA eagles will play at home on Friday October 3rd at 5:30. Come out and show support at both games!
