After a hard fought game on Tuesday afternoon against the Epiphany School, the Varsity Volleyball Lady Eagles came up a bit short. The game only lasted three sets, all in favor of Epiphany, but our Varsity Volleyball team gave it their all throughout the entire match.

The Lady Eagles knew it was going to be a challenging game after hearing about Epiphany’s 34-3 season last year and getting most of their key players back. However, despite the loss, everyone remained focused and determined to play their best throughout the game. The team was led by setter Hunter Cuthrell, with seven assists, four service points, and one kill. When asked about her kill, Hunter replied, “I learned it from Landin Johnston.” Front row blockers and hitters Ashley Bissette and Landin Johnston each had three service points, two kills, and one block. Junior Mackenzie Thompson put in a great effort with eight service points and three aces, helping the team pick up hard-earned points. Our defensive skills were displayed well against the powerful outside and middle hitters. Players Mackenzie Butler, Katie Gutshall, and Emma Grace Sprinkle held their ground against Epiphany’s intimidating front row. All twelve of the Lady Eagles saw action on the court during the game, including newcomer Rachel Williams, whom after the game against Parrot Academy on Thursday afternoon was voted “Player of the Game” by the team.

One of the things that has helped the team the most this year is having consistent serves. The Lady Eagles got 88% of their serves in during the game which gave them a great advantage. The team’s coach, Coach Smith, really focuses on serving during practice because that is one of the major factors in volleyball that will make or break a team.

Next on the schedule for our Varsity Volleyball team is an away game at Oakwood Academy on Monday the 8th, followed by another away game at Halifax Academy on Tuesday the 9th. Be sure to come on out and support your Lady Eagles Volleyball team!
