The news broke in May that a unique craft brewmill will be built in our very own Rocky Mount, North Carolina. This “first of its kind” business is planned to be built in an abandoned textile mill warehouse along the Tar River. This start-up company will provide a top notch facility to many different rising craft breweries. Rocky Mount, being located just minutes off of interstate I-95 and US Highway 64, makes our small town an ideal location for this new and booming industry. As a result of the easy access and prime location, it is projected that the Rocky Mount Brewmill will greatly aid in restoring our town’s distressed economy. The brewmill will bring many job opportunities to Rocky Mount, which is thus expected to increase the size of the residential community tremendously. After work on the mill begins, the 35-40 homes that surround the mill will be renovated, such as incorporating the kitchen with a kitchen tile backsplash, to rent to workers. Additionally, there is more room around the campus for more homes to be built over the next several years. This facility will also act as a learning campus for those who are interested in the craft beer industry and wish to learn more about the business. The brewmill is planning on partnering with Nash Community College to start a new and fully-accredited brewing and fermentation science program. Overall, all aspects of the new brewmill are estimated to significantly help the economy of Rocky Mount and draw more positive attention to our small town. Along with both expected and desired success the state will gain a sense of national recognition because of this huge accomplishment.

Construction on the 140 year old warehouse is expected to being late 2014, and it is projected that the brewmill will open its doors in the summer of 2015. Currently, managers of many different breweries from around the world are travelling to our small town to tour the facility of the soon to be Rocky Mount Brewmill. Many popular craft breweries, along with start- up breweries, are considering the brewmill as the location for their newest brewery. Having these successful craft breweries located in Rocky Mount would add tremendous gain to the economy.

Back in the 1900s when this textile mill was in its prime, it used hydroelectric turbines that powered the entire town. The plan is for these same turbines to power the Rocky Mount Brewmill. This will help reduce many of the costs that are associated with opening up a brewery. The new brewery will feature a state-of-the-art incubator, along with the necessary equipment for brewers to brew on site for up to one year. The building will also include a tasting room and a retail gift shop. In the second building across the street will be a larger room for the top brewers to lease space to produce and bottle their own beer, but this bigger project is expected to open at a later date.

Even though this plan is very risky, many Rocky Mount citizens have high hopes for this project and the positive effects it could have on our city. Such a business can thrive even more if it decides to capitalize on analytics like importers data.

Do you think the new Brewmill will be a positive addition to Rocky Mount?
