Talented Eagles: Our Favorite Hobbies
September 29, 2017
It’s not a secret that Rocky Mount Academy is home to many talented students and faculty, alike! From sports, to music, to collecting and more, we offer a broad range of unique things we all do in our spare time. Everyone brings something different to RMA, so below are a few people who are willing to share their favorite hobbies with us!
Faculty:
Mr. Stancavish
Mr. Stancavish’s favorite hobby is collecting vintage baseball, football, basketball, and hockey cards (but mostly baseball)! He has cards from many decades, including “tobacco” cards from 1912, star cards from the 1950s and 1960s, and a complete Topps 1965 baseball card set (consisting of 598 cards – it took him 7 years to complete it!).
Mrs. Lehnes
Mrs. Lehnes’ favorite activity is to relax on the beach! It gives her some time to de-stress and get some well deserved peace and quiet!
Mrs. Meadows
It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that Mrs. Meadow’s favorite hobby is running! She even scored in the top 12% overall in the last half-marathon she ran!
Upper School:
Elias Moore (12th)
Elias enjoys making things from scratch. He recently has created a speaker out of virtually nothing, and anyone in his classes has seen his pencil that he electrically modified to make music He also enjoys fixing up cars, like his 1980 Fiat Spider.
Anna Penwell (12th)
Anna loves doing theatre because when she’s on stage, she can bring a character to life. She loves that great feeling, as well as when people recognize her after the show!
Jack Boucher (11th)
Jack’s favorite activity is shooting! He competes in both sporting clay and skeet shooting competitions, and is consistently a top shooter in all of RMA’s shooting team’s tournaments!
Caleb Chesis (10th)
Caleb enjoys going to car shows. He loves looking at the older models!
Virginia Grey Newton (9th)
Virginia Grey is a master sailor! She loves how relaxing it can be, as well as the competitions she has with her brother, Thomas. She loves being out in the sun, on the water, and controlling a boat in such a beautiful world!
Middle School:
Shelton Honey (8th)
Shelton’s favorite thing to do is probably playing tennis. She may only be in 8th grade, but she is a valuable asset to RMA’s varsity tennis team, which shows that she excels in her hobby!
Lottie Parker (7th)
Lottie’s favorite activity is singing! However, anyone who knows Lottie she is also great at playing the piano. Either way, she is a very musically gifted girl!
Franklin Davis (7th)
Franklin enjoys playing sports in his spare time! His two favorites are basketball and soccer.
Ashton Grey Beddingfield (6th)
Anyone who knows Ashton Grey (or has been to one of RMA’s football games or pep rallies) can attest to her talents as a gymnast, so it’s no surprise that gymnastics is her favorite passtime!
Temple Eidson (6th)
Temple is a very talented soccer player (it seems to run in the family, since his sister Barrett is also a star on the soccer field)!
Lower School:
Fenner Parker (4th)
Fenner’s favorite activity is sports, most notably playing basketball!
Simmons Gross (K)
Simmons enjoys taking care of her “babies.” Her mother sometimes can’t find the dishtowels because Simmons has taken them as extra blankets for her dolls!
Chambers Barnhill (Pre-K)
Chambers’ favorite thing to do (when she isn’t too busy playing other games with Nan and Bea) is playing outside!
