For the Children: 42nd Annual Auction Saddles Up

Emily Cheston, Communications Chair

Though it is hard to believe, the month of February is already upon us. To Rocky Mount Academy families, this time of year is characterized by the Annual Auction. The auction serves as a time for RMA to reflect on the past year’s successes, socialize, and support our school. The tradition encompassed in the event makes for several repeat attendees. Thanks to generous donations of items to bid on, and enthusiastic bidders, the 42nd Annual Auction has seen yet another year of tremendous success.

Behind every great auction is a great group of organizers. Bethany Tharin, this year’s Auction chair, had the honor and challenge of arranging the event. A number of RMA parents made up this year’s Auction Committee which made the logistics of such an important event more achievable. By Saturday night, the Brown Auditorium at Nash Community College was set up as the perfect venue. After a few remarks from Mrs. Covolo, the Annual Auction was off to a great start. This year’s western theme made it a fun night for all. As for the exciting items up for bidding, there were several unique options. An entertaining Halloween party for up to 75 people was up for grabs as a live auction item. Other items included a guided duck hunt on the Pamlico River, and a pair of earrings from Bailey’s Jewelers. The rambling bus, which takes participants on a multi-course dinner tour, added new houses to its itinerary. Another interesting item was an African safari trip, which was offered for the last two years. Also up for bidding was a Pinehurst golfing trip, a Historic Bath getaway, tickets to a UNC basketball game, and dinner for twelve at Rose Hill Plantation. To put it simply, none of the success of the auction would be possible without the very generous donations of many in the Rocky Mount Academy family.
