Glamour and Glitz– RMA Prom 2016

This past Friday, RMA juniors and seniors had a blast at prom. This highly anticipated night did not disappoint as faculty, parents, and students alike gathered in the cafeteria for this special event.

Since the Wednesday before prom, the juniors had been feverishly working to decorate the cafeteria for the Roaring Twenties theme. With the help of Ms. O’Brien, Ms. Knox, and Ms. Carter, along with some of the junior class parents, the cafeteria was unrecognizable on Friday night. With the cafeteria glowing with gold, black, and white, everything was set for a great night ahead.

All juniors and seniors were excused after D period on Friday in preparation of the big night. When 9:00 rolled around later that evening, a large portion of the faculty, all of the senior parents, and all students and their dates were eagerly awaiting the start of the prom. A long standing RMA tradition of the seniors and their dates being presented was first on the agenda. Ms. Covolo called each senior’s name and his or her escort’s as they walked out of the Proctor Hall doors and to the center of the floor for a picture and applause. After this tradition, Ms. Covolo introduced the band of the night, Another Level, and the senior/parent dance was under way. Having senior parents there for the first dance of the night makes Prom all the more special and intimate for everyone involved. The senior date dance was up next, as parents were smiling and taking pictures as they watched their student at his/her last RMA dance. However, the real fun began after this as Another Level changed the mood to make it a little more upbeat. Another Level began performing at RMA’s Prom 3 years ago as students decided it was time for a change from a regular DJ. Since their debut, they have been an RMA Prom staple; something that is sure to be the center of attention as well as a major reason people always have a great time. Their setlist from last Friday night ranged from Four Tops’ “I Can’t Help Myself” to Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock and Roll” to Justin Timberlake’s “Sexy Back”. As in year’s past, the band was a hit and everyone had a great time dancing to their music as opposed to a normal DJ.

The night lived up to everyone’s expectation, thanks to the hard work of some upper school teachers and the junior class. On behalf of all the seniors, thank you for making this night so special for everyone involved!
