Varsity Girls Soccer

With dedication, this young team has recently been turning their season around. They have been coming together and finally meshing as the team everyone knew they could be.  Despite working hard as a team, this past week the Eagles faced some of the hardest competition yet.  Monday the lady Eagles took on Harrells Academy. Harrells always has a good team, and our girls knew that going in, but they fought hard and remained competitive the entire game. On Tuesday, the girls played another top team, Cary Christian.  The young team battling several injuries, yet again came out ready to play. They kept the game under control never giving in to the bigger, more experienced knights. Make sure to go support this team in their games next week!

Varsity Baseball

Varsity baseball has had a successful week starting with a huge win over Harrells Academy on Tuesday. The Eagles went in with no pressure, as they were not expected to beat the much older and more experienced crusaders. The Eagles led the whole game, coming out strong offensively in the first few innings. Harrells didn’t make it easy though, coming back to tie the game 4-4 in the 6th inning. The Eagles again did not disappoint at the plate winning the game 5-4 in the bottom of the 7th inning. The team was led by juniors Reid Johnston and Tyson Jones. Reid has one of his best games on the mound of the season, pitching all 7 innings with no walks. Tyson had a great game as well with several crucial hits offensively along with some great plays made from second base. When asked about the game Reid said, “It was definitely one of our best games of the season.  Everything finally came together”.

Varsity Softball

The Varsity Softball team had a busy week as well with 3 games. Monday the girls played Harrells Academy, one of the top teams in the state. Considering the Eagle’s young team and lack of experience, it wasn’t a bad game. Wednesday the lady Eagles played St. David’s, who had previously beaten them in a tournament earlier in the season. St. David’s was strong offensively in the 1st inning gaining a quick 5-0 lead. The Eagles were resilient fighting back to a 12-6 victory. The Eagles were in much need of this victory to regain some confidence to hopefully carry with them into the rest of the season.

Varsity Boys Tennis

The tennis team had a tough week playing Oakwood on Wednesday and Trinity School of Durham on Thursday. The Eagles lost both matches, but several courts were very close and could have gone either way. Number one seed, sophomore Trey Smelcer, went into third set tie breakers in both his matches this week.  He played hard all three sets against and remained competitive against very talented opponents. Senior, Davis Brown also went to a third set tie breaker against Oakwood, falling short in the final points, but still playing a long, competitive match. Although the team had a bit of an off week this week they have had a great season thus far and hopefully will be back on the right track next week.
