ARF Presents Odin’s Orphans with Substantial Check

Caitlyn Vester, Co-editor

This past Wednesday, March 16th, the newest club at RMA, ARF, finished its first fundraiser and donated all the profits to Odin’s Orphans Dog Rescue. The club met in its weekly spot, Mrs. Watkins’ room during lunch, and was welcomed by Shanna Floyd, founder of Odin’s Orphans, and other furry friends Odin and Grimm. A small group fundraising for such casues is what is needed to get the necessary help.

The club worked extremely hard selling World’s Finest Chocolate bars for the few weeks starting at the beginning of February. Each member sold a minimum of 120 bars for $1 each. With the help of chocolate-hungry RMA students, faculty, and the local community, the chocolate bars were a huge success and easily sold. After the sale had finished, the money was counted and ARF had raised $1321.05 for Odin’s Orphans. Shanna Floyd stated “We can’t do what we do without the help of members of the community like the students of ARF. I am so excited to see the youth of the community coming together to help save animals! This donation has helped us to save many four-legged lives and is much appreciated by me and all the orphans. Not only was this a monetary donation, but Odin’s Orphans received encouragement and love from the students which helps us continue on our journey to rescue as many as we can.”

Aside from fundraising, ARF will also help out at different community events that Odin’s Orphans participates in. On April 2nd, Odin’s Orphans will have a booth set up at the Spring Fling Annual Cat and Dog Fundraiser located at the NC State Fairgrounds. At this event, there will be a doggie Easter egg hunt, local vendors, and many booths of local dog and cat rescues set up. Additionally, Odin’s Orphans is hosting a “Dogs Day Out” at Pets Best Friend in Rocky Mount on April 30th. This is a day of fun as many orphans will be there that are available for adoption. There will also be an area designated for dogs of the community to enjoy, booths set up selling a variety of things, a silent auction, and a Chick-fil-a food trailer. Soon after, Odin’s Orphans will be holding a yard sale on May 14th at 929 Eastern Ave. in Nashville (across from the L&L Gas Station). Odin’s Orphans collects items that have been dropped off by members of the community to Coats Veterinary Hospital to sell. Everyone is encouraged to donate to the yard sale and any donation is accepted! If you would like to participate in any of these functions or have any questions, please feel free to email me at [email protected].

Congrats ARF on a job well done!
