Varsity Boys Take 1st in Conference on Senior Night

Julia High, Marketing Chair

Tuesday, January 19th, Crossroads Christian traveled to RMA to play in one of the most important games of the season. Both teams went into the game with an undefeated conference record and were determined to continue it, but once again, the Eagles came out on top. Although RMA did come out with a 72 – 61 lead, they did not hold a lead the whole game. Due to a slow start, the Eagles were down 12-20 after the first quarter. The RMA boys stepped it up in the second quarter outscoring Crossroads 21 – 16, but were still down by 3 at the end of the half. The Eagles started the second half with a new sense of intensity and energy, as they often do. This resulted in a dynamic 3rd quarter, the Eagles taking control of the game. They took the lead in the middle of the 3rd quarter and never looked back, maintaining it throughout the rest of the game. A.J. Mitchell led the Eagles with 19 points, including several crucial threes. Elijah McCadden and Brendan Acker both added 17, followed by Kyle Holland with 11, and Hunter Franks with 8. This victory puts the Eagles at 1st in the CIC conference and hopefully will help them defend their conference title in the upcoming conference tournament. Not only was Tuesday an important night for the rest of the Eagle’s season, but it was also RMA’s senior night for all winter athletes. Brendan Acker, Kyle Holland, Davis Brown, Hunter Franks, Jack Thorp, and Roney Harris were recognized from the Varsity Boys’ basketball team. Hollie Tyndall, Katie Gutshall, Jami Perkins, and Allison Barnes were recognized from the Varsity Girls’ team, and Stephen Ward was recognized from the Varsity Swim team. All 11 of these seniors have served as leaders for their teams on and off the court and will be greatly missed next year.
