On Tuesday, January 5th our J.V. and Varsity Basketball teams took on Kerr Vance Academy. The varsity games had an exciting start with the girls playing a hard fought game only losing by 5 points. The girls kept it close the whole game with it coming down to the last seconds. The Lady Eagles were led by senior captain, Katie Gutshall. When asked about the game Katie said, “We fought hard and played pretty well, but they just executed better.”

The boys on the other hand came out with a 75-62 victory. The Eagles were expected to win the game against the visiting Spartans, and they certainly did not disappoint. Although they had a slightly slow start, finishing the first quarter with only a 3 point lead, the energy level changed in the second quarter. RMA took over, coming out of the first half with a 21-12 lead. The defense was especially impressive, forcing the Spartans into 26 turn overs, 16 alone in the first half. Sophomore, Elijah McCadden, led the Eagles offense with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Kyle Holland added 16 points, A.J. Mitchell added another 14, Brendan Acker contributed 10 points along with 10 rebounds. Davis Brown, Jack Thorp, Jay Crandall, and Rob Turnage all also added points to the final score. This victory added the Eagles undefeated conference record and will help lead them to success in the conference tournament in February.
