As fall sports come to an end, here is a review of how each varsity team performed this season.

Girls Varsity Volleyball

The Varsity Volleyball team this year was composed of a group of dedicated, hard – fighting lady Eagles. Although the season did not go as the team wanted, they never gave up and fought for every point. The team was led by a strong group of seniors: Mackenzie Thompson, Katie Gutshall, Mackenzie Lambert, Annie Larimer, Emma Grace Sprinkle, and Erin O’Brien. Many of these seniors have been playing since middle school and were key players as well as leaders of the team. They will definitely be missed. Katie Gutshall and Mackenzie Thompson were awarded All – Conference Honorable Mention.

Varsity Cross Country

The cross country team had yet another successful season this year. The girls team finished as Conference – Runner Up and the boys team finished 6th in the conference. These impressive results are surely to be improved in the following years granted that both the boys and girls teams are very young each only losing one senior each, Izzie Rommel and Roney Harris. The teams received many awards for their accomplishments. For the boys, AJ Mitchell was named All – Conference Honorable Mention. For the girls, Haley McCall was named an All- Conference Honorable Mention Runner and Briana Winham (finishing 5th in the conference) was named All – Conference. Junior Caitlyn Vester was not only All – Conference, but finishing 1st in the conference she was named Conference Runner of the Year! Lastly, with no surprise, Coach Michelle Meadows was named Coach of the Year for the 3rd consecutive year in a row.

Varsity Boys Soccer

The Varsity Soccer team had a great season this year. Finishing 2nd in the conference and winning the 2A division in conference, the team was then given a bid to state for the first time in years! A dynamic group of seniors contributed too much of this team’s victory by showing leadership and just by being a particularly strong group of players. Next year’s team will really have to step up due to loosing this bunch. Brendan Acker, Hunter Franks, Grayson Reams, Andy Ramirez were named an All – Conference players and Andersen Cobb was All – Conference Honorable Mention. Additionally, Senior Brendan Acker was named a member of the All- State team.

Varsity Girls Tennis

Girls’ tennis had another impressive season this year finishing as conference runner up for the second year in a row and an overall conference record of 5-1. Much of the team was made up of seniors who filled the 3rd, 4th, and 5th seeds, and will all greatly be missed next year. The team was seeded 6th out of 12 teams in the state tournament, making it to the second round where they were defeated by higher seed, Parrot Academy. 1st seed Julia High with a 6-0 conference record, 2nd seed Haven Ross with a 5-1 conference record, and 6th seed Ann Sumner Thorp with a 6-0 conference record, were all named All – Conference, and 4th seed Lindsey Ross with a 5-1 conference record was named All- Conference Honorable Mention. Along with All – Conference, Julia High was also All – State and the Conference Player of the Year.

Varsity Football

The Football team has yet to finish their season. They won their last regular season game Friday 48-0 against Halifax Academy, leaving the team with just the play offs left. The Eagles lost 3 games during the season, but feel certain they could have a different outcome to these opponents in the playoffs. The team is hurting from several injuries right now, but hopefully some of these players will be ready to be back on the field by Friday. This year’s team is led by four seniors: Kyle Holland, Will Batchelor, Gage Chilton, and John Hardy High. Good luck to this team in the playoffs!
