Davis Brown, Media Chair

Isabel Rommel, affectionately called Izzie by her classmates, stands out because of her active and passionate participation in and out of the classroom. She is an AP Scholar with Honor, taking many AP classes since her sophomore year including AP Calculus and AP European History. Izzie was also chosen as an Academic Marshall as a junior.

Izzie is also an impressive athlete, running on the Varsity Cross Country since 7th grade, and Varsity Softball from 7th to 10th. Izzie could also be seen flipping and doing on gymnastics as a member of the Varsity Cheerleading squad in the 10th grade, winning MVP for the fall season. She is also an impressive marksman, shooting Sports Clays from 8th to 12th grade.

Rocky Mount Academy also values community participation and service outside the classroom. Izzie exemplifies this ideal, working as a Community Theater Volunteer at the Imperial Centre and at the Nash Arts Center. She also used her athletic talents as a dancer at Elite Dance Studio, and put them to use in the community as a Gymnastics Assistant Coach at Tri-County Arts. Finally, Izzie is a Debu-ettes Club Member and works as a waitress and barista at Milton & Miles.

What is your favorite show on Netflix?

American Horror Story

What are some activities you enjoy outside of school?

I’m always doing something for a show at either the Imperial Centre or Nash Arts. And a really good friend of mine is a dance instructor and she and I have been working on a routine to one of our favorite songs for a few months.

What will you miss the most about RMA? The least?

Most: My cross country team. Least: Having two minutes to get from one class to another.

What class have you enjoyed the most at RMA?

Mr. Leonard’s musical performance class has definitely been one of my favorites this year, but I really enjoyed my English 11 class with Dr. O’Brien my junior year.

Do you have any nicknames?

Everyone calls me Izzie, and my mom and dad still call me Buzzy all the time

Have you decided what colleges you are applying to?

I’m applying to UNC-Charlotte, NC State, San Diego State, UT-Knoxville, Vanderbilt, University of Portland, University of Tulsa, and Washington University in St. Louis.

What are your biggest pet peeves?

People talking while I’m trying to watch something on TV. Also, when people cancel plans at the last minute; that is beyond infuriating.

What song best describes your work ethic?

Oh God, I can’t pick just one. I don’t know any that really describe my work ethic but I definitely have ones I listen to when I need to improve it! Typical by Mutemath, Stop by Jane’s Addiction, Build a Rocket Boys by Elbow, Song 2 by Blur, When the Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin, Why Not Me by The Judds, Cars by Gary Newman, Drive by Incubus, and Learn to Fly by Foo Fighters, to name just a few.

If you could be the best at any one thing, what would it be?

Knowing what to say. A lot of my friends are younger than me and always ask me for advice and I always do what I can to help but I’m still young too and don’t always have the answers to everything.

If you were stranded on an island with only your clothes and three other things, what would they be?

The entire Outlander series, a flare gun, and a whole lot of sunscreen
