This past Thursday, Grace Christian’s newly formed football team traveled to RMA for our third game of the season. The Eagles rose above the competition after coming off of a tough loss to Parrot two weeks before and showed their perseverance despite the absence of injured kicker: Jared McCall. With the scoreboard showing 48-0 by the end of the night, the team hopes that the momentum from a satisfying win will carry them through the rest of the season.

The RMA Eagles started off the first quarter right with a touchdown pass to Junior Christopher Rabil in just the first two minutes. The team then went for a two point conversion and ended up successful. These plays put RMA’s offense in the right frame of mind and their determination carried throughout the rest of the game. An impressive interception led to a defensive touchdown and soon the scoreboard read 14-0. Three minutes later, the Eagles scored yet another touchdown pass and followed up with an extra point. The team had yet to give up a touchdown to the other team and they weren’t letting up. A rushing touchdown contributed to the staggering lead and RMA, yet again, secured the extra point. On that note, the second quarter began.

Three minutes in, Rocky Mount Academy scored a rushing touchdown followed by another field goal. Grace Christian’s defense held RMA until a little later in the quarter when, with two minutes left, made a successful pass in order to score yet another six points. The Eagles then made the field goal leaving the scoreboard to show 42-0 leading into halftime.

With the beginning of the third quarter, RMA was determined to continue their journey to victory. Grace Christian, however, played their best and wanted to leave it all on the field. They ended up preventing RMA from scoring until the last two minutes of the quarter when another rushing touchdown was made, despite their defensive efforts.

By the beginning of the fourth quarter, RMA felt comfortable in their lead and, due to defensive skill on both teams, neither team scored in the last twelve minutes. This impressive win leaves RMA with an official 2-1 record as well as a good outlook for the rest of the season. Hopefully the team will rise to the occasion against other future opponents until their last game in October. Make sure to come out and support the Eagles on Friday, September 11th at home when we take on Cary Christian.
