On Friday afternoon fall athletes and fans joined in excitement and anticipation as varsity tennis, volleyball, and soccer teams headed to cross town rival, Faith Christian School for the first conference competition of the school year.

The exciting day started with Junior Varsity tennis who battled Faith at home. The J.V. eagles defeated FCS in a 10-0 victory; losing no courts and only one game overall including exhibition. Varsity tennis followed up at Faith Christian with a sweeping victory winning all 9 courts against FCS. Many of the eagles won quickly with ease, but some courts battled through tough matches and even won tie breakers. Freshman number two singles player Haven Ross lost her first set, but came back to win the second set and then a third set tie breaker against an older opponent. Haven then dominated her doubles match with her older sister Lindsey Ross in a quick 8-0 victory. Olivia Turnage and Rachel Scott Dunn also fought a hard match at number three doubles, but again were victorious in the tie breaker. Overall, the match was one of the best performances the team has had this year and leaves them excited for what is to come. The victory continues the varsity girl’s tennis undefeated streak against Faith Christian.

In the gym our lady eagles were working just as hard. The J.V. girls’ volleyball started with a hard fought game. The eagles were defeated in two sets with the scores of 11-25 and 16-25, but they played hard the whole game and never gave up. The J.V. girls are a young, excited team and are eagerly anticipating the rest of the season. The varsity volleyball team followed in another close and hard fought game. Even though the varsity girls did not come out on top they gave it their all and never stopped fighting. The final score was 20-25, 18-25, 23-25.  Senior Mackenzie Thompson said “I thought the teams were pretty evenly matched and we played hard, it just didn’t go our way this time”.

Soccer, just like the other competitions was a competitive battle. J.V. boys started with a domination over FCS with a 6-1 victory. Varsity boys started soon after. This was the best attended game of the day attracting fans and students from RMA, FCS, and even RMHS. The game was very close and competitive throughout the whole game. Tension was high as RMA started on top with the first goal by junior Andersen Cobb. FCS came back with a goal of their own leaving the score tied at 1-1. The game went into overtime where both teams had chances for goals and Andersen Cobb even had several shots to hit the post, but neither teams scored and left the game at a 1-1 tie for the final turn out. Although many were upset with this inconclusive outcome the game was hard fought on both sides and a great way to start off conference play.
