Super Bowl XLIX

Super Bowl XLIX

This past Sunday, fans all across the world tuned in to watch another spectacular football season culminate in the biggest game of the year, Super Bowl XLIX.

Despite a great season, things started off rough with different scandals and problems throughout the season. From Ray Rice to Adrian Peterson and criticizing the NFL and their responses to the problems, it is safe to say the NFL had a rough start to the season. But despite the rough start, the players were able to play, the coaches were able to coach, and the fans were able to watch another great season unfold.

The week leading up to the Super bowl is always full of excitement as players arrive to the stadium and have media days. This year there was a little added excitement to the pre-game festivities, as the Patriots were being investigated for deflating their game balls in the AFC Championship game against the Colts. Also, Pro-Bowl running back Marshawn Lynch entertained everybody anytime he had to step on the podium and “cooperate” with the media.  The players entertained the fans as the week went by, but they were still focused on one thing, bringing the Lombardi Trophy back home.

As 6:20 rolled around on Sunday evening, players were ready to kick off in Glendale Arizona. The game started off slow with turnovers and bad decisions, ending the 1st quarter in a 0-0 tie. The second quarter saw more action as the Patriots thought they could take a 14-7 lead into halftime, but Russell Wilson and the Seahawks were able to punch it in with little time remaining, tying the score at 14. During halftime, the players went in to reassess their game plan while Katy Perry entertained the crowd. The Seahawks came out on fire winning the third quarter 10-0, taking a 24-14 lead into the fourth. But everyone knows to never count out team led by future Hall-of-Famer Tom Brady. Brady was able to throw two touchdowns in the fourth, the second with just a few seconds before the 2-minute warning, to take a 28-24 lead. The Seahawks were not done just yet, as they marched down the field straight to the 1 yard line with just seconds remaining. After a rushing attempt on first down, Seattle decided to throw the ball, a decision they will regret forever. New England’s Defensive back, Malcom Butler, whom they just picked up 3 games before, jumped the route and intercepted the pass from Russell Wilson.

The Patriots ran out the clock, and then let the celebration ensue. Tom Brady was named the Super bowl MVP, and the Patriots were able to take the Lombardi Trophy back home to Boston, greeted by thousands of fans. Super bowl XLIX was a great ending to a great season. Now we sit and wait, only 207 days until Seattle and Green Bay kickoff the 2015 season.
