This week’s Senior Spotlight shines on one of our class’s most kind and genuine members: Ella Gray Corey. Ella Gray joined us at RMA in 6th grade and has been such a joy to our school ever since. She is a shining example of a true friend, and everything that she does is done humbly. She uses the words lovable, ambitious, and easygoing to describe herself, and I couldn’t agree more. Neither could one of her closest friends, Emma Everette, who notes, “I do not know what I would’ve done if I had never met Ella Gray. When she first came to RMA, little did I know she would become my best friend and basically family. There are so many things I love about Ella, including her caring and comforting nature, funny personality, and her ability to make just about anyone laugh. I can always count on her to be there for me in any situation. I’m so thankful for all of our many good memories and to have had her in my life for the past 6 years. Although we are not sure yet where we will end up, I truly know wherever life takes her she is sure to succeed. So thankful for my forever friend.”

A member of National Honor Society, Ella Gray has excelled in the classroom throughout Upper School. Her Senior year is no different as she takes on AP Psychology, AP Environmental Science, Honors Calculus, and English 12 Honors. Ella Gray’s success as a student has earned her a spot on the A Honor Roll for grades 9-11. Her strong academic achievement has also earned her many additional awards: Academic Excellence in French 1 and 2, Geometry, and Algebra 2. Her electives this year are Sports Management and Ceramics, the latter of which she notes is her favorite class because it always gets her through the day.

Outside of academics, Ella Gray keeps herself very busy and involved. She is a dedicated member of a variety of clubs: FCA, Key Club, Stronger Together, and National Honor Society.  She has also received the Hugh O’Brien Leadership Award for her efforts both inside and outside of the classroom.  Additionally, she is a key member of the volleyball team. Ella Gray is the team’s setter, and her talent and leadership have been strong contributing factors in the team’s success. I am confident that RMA volleyball will not be the same without her next year. In her free time, Ella Gray enjoys going to the beach, skiing, and spending time with her friends and family.

It has been such a joy to get to know Ella Gray over the past six years. Anyone who meets her will agree that she is simply beautiful inside and out. Ella Gray is applying to Meredith, NC State, ECU, UNCW, and the College of Charleston with a major in Communications and the goal of a future career in Speech Therapy. Knowing how well Ella Gray works with others and makes them feel welcome, I am certain that Communications is the perfect major for her and that she will excel socially and academically no matter where she ends up next year.
