This senior spotlight is on a member of the senior class who is hard to miss: Wells Hutson. You can always find him on an athletic field or court since he’s a three-sport athlete, or in the classroom working extra hard–often during free time. There are three words that come to my mind when describing Wells: determined, helpful, and passionate. Wells Hutson’s determination leads him to dedicate his time towards both athletics, and  academics. Ever since Wells arrived at RMA in the fifth grade, he has been an asset to the school. He is the first to help out around campus whether it’s by lifting heavy boxes or  being the first to sign up for a club or activity. He strives to be the best he can be in every area possible. Wells’s helpful nature shines through when he volunteers in Ms. Whitehead’s Exceptional Children’s class during his study hall. He has created a bond with all of the students in the class that hasn’t gone unnoticed . Whether he is teaching Tyler how to tie a tie or making sure everyone got into their classroom all right, Wells is an asset to that class. Because Wells is passionate about helping with Exceptional Children, he and Mackenzie Davis started the Stronger Together Club to further integrate those students with the rest of the school.

From an academic standpoint, Wells is taking a rigorous course load and is enrolled in AP Calculus, AP Psychology, AP Literature, and AP Government and Politics. He also lets his creativity loose during Ceramics 1. His academic efforts have been recognized by receiving the honor of being a graduation marshal last year and receiving the Turner Battle Scholarship. He also received the Citizenship award in 9th and 11th grade along with the Junior Class Service Award. Wells is a part of various clubs as well. He is the Sergeant of Arms for Key Club and is a member of the Fellowship of Christain Athletes and the Anatomy Club.

Wells is very involved in sports at RMA as well. He is the quarterback for the football team, point guard on the basketball team, and pitcher for the baseball team. Wells also plays travel baseball, which takes him all around North Carolina during the summer. His dedication on the baseball field has led him to receive All Conference honors twice, Defensive MVP, and the Coach’s Award. When asked what he will miss most about RMA, Wells explains how he will miss playing sports and the comerotery of the teams at RMA. During his free time, Wells enjoys playing with his dog, hanging out with friends, or playing golf for fun!

Wells has already been accepted to Campbell University, and he is in the process of applying to Elon, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the University of South Carolina. I can speak for everyone when I say we will miss Wells next year, but we wish him the very best in years to come!
