Key Club Ice Cream Sale Success

This week, the Key Club held its annual ice cream sale to add to the Spirit Week excitement! For only $3, any student or faculty member could purchase a scoop of vanilla ice cream with practically unlimited toppings: sprinkles, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, caramel sauce, Oreos, Reeses Pieces, M&Ms, gummy bears, and cherries. Even with pre-hurricane winds and colder temperatures, our ice cream sale raised $900.

This annual sale is for a great cause and one that is near to our hearts at RMA: the Holly Project. Holly Fryar, a former RMA student and sister to Ian and Heather, lost her battle with cancer at the young age of 21. Soon after, the Holly Project was started to honor Holly and to enhance cancer research.

In preparation for the sale, Key Club officers got the word out through flyers, posters, and morning announcements. The officers sent out informational envelopes to each Lower School class with the opportunity to turn their money in early. Lower School teachers could then sign up for a time to bring their classes, with Middle and Upper School going during their breaks and lunch. All Key Club members contributed a gallon of vanilla ice cream or a different topping. The sale was run by members and officers all day until the start of the pep rally with the help of our awesome club advisors, Ms. Baker and Ms. Keel. A huge “thank you” goes out to everyone who contributed to the ice cream sale by working it, preparing for it, or purchasing ice cream or making a donation. It was the biggest success yet!

Up next for the Key Club is our raffle ticket sale where we will use our proceeds to “adopt a family” through My Sister’s House for the holiday season. Contact club advisors Jennifer Baker and Deborah Keel or club president Mari Robin Tharin if you would like to support the Key Club!
