Top 8 Reasons to Apply to Media Office

Media Office applications for the 2017/18 school year are officially out and available for rising juniors and seniors. Here are 8 top reasons you should apply!

1. Two awesome advisors – Although Media Office is student run, we are lucky to have Mrs. Bryant and Mrs. Gross as our advisors. They are super fun and always available to help with whatever we need in and out of Media Office.

2. Resume builder! – I know everyone is forever telling high schoolers to do things because “it’ll look good on a college application”, but that should not be your only purpose for doing something. That said being said, along with all of the other great perks, Media Office is a unique and great thing to write on college applications.

3. Staying involved in school – What a better way to stay updated and help out the RMA family than writing weekly articles about school life, managing RMA social media accounts, and making promotional videos?! It’s an easy way to make a difference and make sure everyone knows about all the great stuff going on here on a weekly basis.

4. Fancy and very cool equipment – While being a Media Office Member, you gain access to all the high-tech equipment. That includes cameras, Go Pro accessories, and the media office computer which has Adobe premiere, photoshop and other programs that we use to edit pictures and videos. Using all this equipment is very fun and a great skill to learn. Media office perk – you can use the equipment for other school projects that you may need it for.

5. Access to the actual media office – The media office room itself (although we do have to share) is a major plus. We have a Keurig, because who doesn’t need a little caffeine boost during the day? Having the room to go to during independent study or other free time is also very nice when in need of a quiet space.

6. Random class trips – Whether it’s a surprise trip to get food or we are in need of supplies for a pep rally or the office, our class trips are definitely a media office highlight (as long as Thomas is not in charge of the aux cord).

7. Finding your writing style – Writing an article each week about a topic that you get to pick will help develop your own unique writing style. Where we all have MLA, 5 paragraph paper permanently drilled in our heads, getting to use your creativity when writing can be fun and help your writing for other classes.

8. It’s fun! – This one might seem simple or silly, but it really is fun! Having a class period and working with the same small group of people every day is fun and creates a bond with your fellow media office members. I’ve definitely enjoyed working with Caitlyn, Anna Scott, Thomas, and Emily and we’ve become a close group… And yes, we have a group chat.

All this being said I 100% recommend that anyone interested applies to Media Office. Applications are out and due March 19th! If you would like an application, email [email protected].
