As we welcome in the 2024 football season, we also welcome a new head coach to our program, Coach Morris Jones.
Coach Mo completed his degree at ECU and spent two years in Wilson County Public Schools, first as a student-teacher and then as a Health/Physical Education teacher, before joining the staff at RMA, where he teaches and coaches at all levels: Lower School PE classes, Upper School Weightlifting and Sports Management classes, and JV and varsity football.
In addition to coaching football, baseball, and basketball in some capacity at RMA since 2009, Coach Mo has strong personal ties to the school. His son MJ Jones graduated from the Academy in 2014, and his grandson Jordan Creech-Jones is a current freshman at RMA. Both have made important contributions to our football program: Jordan is the JV team’s quarterback and also plays on the varsity team, and MJ was on our championship team back in 2013; he has done a little coaching on the side for us as well.
Coach Mo pushes his players not only to perform well on the field but also in the classroom. He has an understanding with his players that they are to play at their highest level while also being disciplined student-athletes. As well as coaching his players to become better on the field, he teaches them to become responsible young men. Kaiden Pulley, the Eagles’ wide receiver, says that Coach Mo is “dedicated to football and motivated to make his team and players better” on and off the field.
Coach Mo is grateful that he was introduced to RMA by the Fulchers, another RMA family, in the early 2000s. When asked what helped him decide to take a job at RMA, Coach Mo replied, “Working at RMA was an easy choice for me because of the friendly environment and willing teachers who truly support their students.” We’re grateful that Coach Mo has been part of our RMA family for 15 years and continues to be an integral part of our students’ lives as a teacher, coach, and mentor.
