With college basketball just having started, everyone is waiting to see who signs to what college from the class of 2024. Many top schools (like Duke, Kentucky, and Kansas) compete for the top recruits every year, making this an exciting time with highly anticipated outcomes. Although signing day is still pretty far away, some recruits have already started verbally committing to universities or signing letters of intent. 24/7 Sports has an extensive list of recruits and where they’ve committed or are likely to commit to, but I’m going to talk here about the top 5 committed recruits from the class of 2024.
The #1 recruit of the class of 2024 is Cooper Flagg from Montverde, Florida. He’s a 6’9” power forward weighing in at 195 pounds who has been the talk of the media recently, having just committed to Duke University (on 10/30/23) after receiving offers from twelve different schools. It seems he only seriously considered signing with Duke and UConn since those are the only two campuses he visited. Flagg reclassified from the class of 2025 to the class of 2024 and currently attends Montverde Academy, which also has recruits number 12, 13, and 15 this year.
The #2 recruit of the class of 2024 is Dylan Harper from Ramsey, New Jersey. A 6’6” combo guard coming in at 210 pounds, the Don Bosco Prep player has received nine offers so far. He has “warm” interests in Duke, Indiana, Auburn, Rutgers, and Kansas. Even though he has only officially visited two of these schools, Duke and Indiana, it is predicted that he will sign with Rutgers University.
The #3 recruit of the class of 2024 is Ace Bailey from Powder Springs, Georgia. Being a 6’8” and 195-pound small forward (the typical small forward is between 6’6” and 6’9”), it’s no wonder he was able to sign to Rutgers University as early as he did, committing on 1/15/23 during his junior year at McEachern High School.
The #4 recruit of the class of 2024, Drake Powell, is only about an hour and a half away from us in Pittsboro, North Carolina (which is right outside of Chapel Hill). He is currently playing at Northwood High School as a 6’6” and 195-pound small forward. He committed to Carolina just about as early as possible on 9/8/22, the beginning of his junior year.
Tre Johnson, the #5 recruit, is keeping his options open so far. Although he is from Dallas, Texas, he currently attends Link Academy far from home in Branson, Missouri, to play basketball for their top-level competition and skill. Being a 6’6” and 190-pound shooting guard (putting him on the tall side for a shooting guard), he is in high demand, having offers from eighteen different schools. He has visited five of these schools (Baylor, Texas, Alabama, Kentucky, Kansas, and Arkansas) but only two of them twice (Baylor and Texas). It’s predicted that he will sign with either Baylor or Texas (more likely Baylor) because both schools are “the best option for me at the moment,” as he said in a recent social media post.
