Conference Basketball Tournament Recap

This year’s CIC Conference Tournament was held at Halifax Academy, in which ALL six Rocky Mount Academy teams participated and took home first place! The middle school boys and girls, JV boys and girls, and the varsity boys and girls played their hearts out to procure the conference championships. Although the varsity teams still have to take on the state tournament, the jv and middle school teams ended their seasons on a great note.

Middle School Girls Team
The middle school girls team, coached by Cameron Ramsey, played last Wednesday in order to advance to the championship game at Halifax Academy. The middle school girls team started off the winning streak by defeating The Epiphany School from New Bern in a hard-fought game. Britt Gaynor and Ellen Feagans received the All-Tournament Team award and Berkley Miller received Tournament MVP.
Middle School Boys
The middle school boys team, coached by Ivy Powell, advanced to Saturday’s championship game after a victory over The Oakwood School the Wednesday before. Everyone on the team helped push Rocky Mount Academy ahead to secure the game Saturday at Halifax. What a great way to end the season, boys!
JV Girls
The JV girls team competed Thursday in the semifinal game at Halifax to continue their tournament play. The next game was held Saturday, where the girls continued Rocky Mount Academy’s winning streak, making it 3-0. Gabbi Ams and Mckenna Rogers received All-Tournament and Kaylee Wright received Tournament MVP.
JV Boys
The JV Boys first faced Kerr Vance Academy on Thursday at Halifax Academy. With that win, the JV Boys team moved on to play Faith Christian in the championship game. The team added another win to the monumental tournament outcome after the hard-fought game against Faith Christian. Parker Sherrod and Wyatt Wells received All-Tournament and Jordan Wright received Tournament MVP.
Varsity Girls
The winning streak increased to 5-0 after the Varsity Girls team defeated Faith Christian in the championship game Saturday night. Before they competed in the championship game, the girls had to defeat Kerr Vance Academy on Friday night. The girls fought hard and obtained the title of CIC Conference Champions for the Varsity Girls. Mackenzie Davis, Law Kitchin, and Taylor Carmichael received All-Tournament and Mary Hanna Bryant received Tournament MVP. Mackenzie Davis was also awarded CIC Player of the Year.
Varsity Boys
The Boys secured the win in the first game against The Epiphany School on Friday night. They used their motivation from the night before to outfight the Halifax Academy boys team on their own home-turf. This last win created history for RMA as all 6 teams who participated in this tournament brought back the first place trophy. Because of their efforts, Kameron Wright, Miller Rogers, and Marti McKnight received All-Tournament and Chandler Cockrell received Tournament MVP. Kameron Wright was also awarded CIC Conference Player of the Year. In addition, Coach Terrell Hudgins received the honor of being named the CIC Coach of the Year.
What a great way to end the season for the basketball teams at Rocky Mount Academy. As basketball is coming to a close, spring sports are right around the corner!
