Faculty Focus: Paul Stone

This week’s Faculty Focus features high school teacher, Mr. Paul Stone. Mr. Stone teaches 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students a variety of AP and honors classes. These classes include AP Modern European History, AP United States History, AP United States Government and Politics, AP Psychology, and American Culture 1940-2000.  He has an incredibly high passing rate among his students when it comes time for AP exams in the spring. Prior to teaching at Rocky Mount Academy, Mr. Stone grew up in England and travelled the world touring countries such as Tanzania, Egypt, Australia, and more. Q1: Where are you from originally?

A1: London, England

Q2: Where did you go to college?

A2: Oxford University

Q3: What did you major it, and why did you chose it?

A3: Theology. I was going to be a priest.

Q4: Post Grad School?

A4: Law School

Q5: What are your hobbies/interests?

A5: Reading the Eagle Examiner and checking the grammar and spelling!

Q6: Have you been involved in sports, music, art, etc. growing up? If so, elaborate.

A6: I played soccer, cricket, and squash. I was captain of my college squash team.

Q7: Have you had any experiences abroad?

A7: I rode an elephant in India, fell off a camel in Egypt, ate crocodile in Kenya, ate snake in China, and shot a kangaroo in Australia. Oh, and found a hippopotamus 20 feet outside my tent in Tanzania.

Q8: If you had to select one moment in your life that defined you, what would it be?

A8: The day Simon was born- being a father is the greatest job in the world.

Q9: What made you want to pursue a career in teaching?

A9: The money

Q10: What is something not many people know about you?

A10: I lived in Hong Kong for 2 years

Q11: Describe a person who has made the biggest impact on your life?

A11: My wife- she has always made me truly happy.

Q12: What are your biggest pet peeves?

A12: People who text and drive, people who drink and drive, students who spell “Britain” incorrectly, Facebook, automated telephone lines because they cannot understand my accent, so I usually end up screaming at the phone. Oh yes, and people who say “like” every third word. I could go on…

Q13: Describe your dream vacation.

A13: A trip around the world with my wife and Simon

Q14: What is your favorite part about being at Rocky Mount Academy?

A14: I have a massive crush on someone in the office.

Q15: How long have you been at RMA?

A15: This is my 10th year.
