Varsity Volleyball Defeats FCS in Four Sets

On Friday, September 26th, the Lady Eagles swept the volleyball court in an intense four set match against long-term rivals, Faith Christian School. The volleyball games against Faith Christian are always very close and nerve-wracking, so it was especially nice for the Eagles to pull out this win against the Patriots.

The first, third, and fourth sets were dominated by the Eagles, as their passing and hitting game was exceptionally strong. Senior Mackenzie Butler held the back row together with a total of eight digs throughout the game. On the front row, Landin Johnston led with 11 kills, followed by Ashley Bissette with 7, and Hunter Cuthrell with 5. Also adding to the team’s success, setter Hunter Cuthrell had 23 assists during the game. As statistics show, one of the major factors that helped the Lady Eagles rise to the top was the dramatic improvement in their passing and hitting skills. An additional element that added to the successful game for the Lady Eagles was their consistent serving. Overall, the team combined only missed 7 out of the 91 serves during the game.

What made this win even more special for the Eagles was winning on their Senior Night. Seniors Ashley Bissette, Mackenzie Butler, Hunter Cuthrell, Landin Johnston, Deanna Mayo, Anna Claire Thompson, and Rachel Williams were presented by their parents before the game and received roses from Coach Gary Smith and their fellow teammates. When asked about winning on Senior Night, Mackenzie Butler said, “I am so glad we won on Senior Night because that made the win even more memorable and special.”

The Lady Eagles, who are showing more and more improvement each game, only have 1 home game left this season, so come on out and help cheer on the Varsity Volleyball team!
