Vivian Rogers, the subject of this week’s Senior Spotlight, has been an integral part of the class of 2020 since Pre-K, effectively earning her the title of “lifer.” Vivian describes herself as a musical, down-to-earth, well-rounded girl, and I couldn’t agree more. She’s a musician, athlete, actress, and more. Her friend and fellow senior Madison Davis says of Vivian, “Vivian is truly one of a kind. We have been in choir together since the 5th grade. She is a hard worker, and I’m grateful that she has always been a reliable choir member.”

In addition to her already numerous talents, Vivian is stellar in all of her classes. She currently takes Spanish 4 Honors, English 12 Honors, Precalculus Honors, Physics Honors, Music Performance, and Music Intern. Her favorite courses while in high school have been English with Ms. Knox and her music performance classes. Clearly an honors-level student, her accomplishments in the classroom have given her a spot in RMA’s National Honor Society. Outside of academics, Vivian is an active member of the school community. She participates in Upper School Chorus, the Global Studies Honors Program, Drama Club, Key Club, and Spanish National Honor Society. In athletics, she has done Cross Country since 7th grade and has been the captain for the past 2 years. She’s also participated on the Eagles Fire Shooting team and the swim team. With all of these activities under her belt, she’s earned awards for Cross Country, Shooting, Chorus, and Piano.

Outside of RMA’s halls, Vivian is always busy, mostly with music-related hobbies. She is constantly practicing piano and voice. As a pianist, Vivian has competed in the PianOlympics for many years and sometimes volunteers. She also sings in many choirs, including her church’s, Tar River Children’s Chorus, and the Tar River Swing Band. I speak from personal experience when I say Vivian is insanely talented as both an instrumentalist and a vocalist. I’ve never heard anyone with a greater natural talent and passion for music. Although she is greatly dedicated to her craft, Vivian is just like the rest of us when she says in her free time she watches Netflix.

Unfortunately, Vivian will have to leave us in May when she graduates. She’s applied to App State, ECU, Western Carolina, UGA, and Florida State, and she hopes to major in Music Industry Studies. I’ll certainly miss listening to her play piano and singing “Somebody to Love” with her, effectively annoying everyone else in the drama room with our volume. We are so lucky to have had her innate gifts for so long to help with choral concerts and musicals. We wish Vivian the best of luck as she pursues her career in music and hope she’ll never forget her roots at RMA when she becomes uber-famous!
