This week, the High School students had their SGA elections. SGA is a group of students who are elected by their peers. They govern the high school all year long, planning dances, fundraisers, community service activities, and many more things. When asked what her thoughts are on SGA, Amy Knox, English teacher and Faculty Advisor for SGA, said, “I compare it to a local government. We organize events and work to help other people.” They will meet once a week, comparing ideas and planning big events. SGA has many plans for this year, including a Powder-puff Football game, Homecoming dance, two Blood Drives, a Fundraiser Dance, and a Christmas Community Service project. These functions have a great deal of planning involved, so it is important that students vote for representatives that they think would do a good job.

With the elections this week, students were able to vote for who they want for each position. This year’s SGA consists of: President- Colby Kirkpatrick(12), Vice President- Brice Andracchio(12), Secretary- Davis Brown(11), Treasurer- Lindy Pittman(10). Not only does RMA’s SGA consist of those four core positions, but also two class representatives from each grade. Students in each grade were given a slip in homeroom and asked to vote for the two people they would like to see representing their class. This year’s Class Representatives are: Seniors- Rachel Williams (President) and Ashley Bissette (Vice President), Juniors- Jack Thorp (President) and Emma Grace Sprinkle (Vice President), Sophomores- Neha Baliga (President) and Caitlyn Vester (Vice President), Freshman- Marcus Lerro (President) and Lauren Seale (Vice President). Overall, there are twelve members on SGA and all are eager to make RMA a better place. “I am excited to lead SGA this year. I am confident that we will continue to work well together and plan and host fun events for the student body”, said Colby Kirkpatrick, president of SGA.

If any High School students have any ideas or comments, please feel free to contact any SGA officer and they will be more than willing to help! We are all excited to see what these twelve students will do for our school over the course of this year.
