Victory for Varsity Boys Soccer
On Tuesday, September 9th, the Eagles defeated the Oakwood School with a final score of 5-2. The leading scorer was Brendan Acker, who had 3 goals, followed by Grayson Reams, with 2 goals. Defenders Davis Brown, Colby Kirkpatrick, Marcus Lerro, and Caleb Smith locked down the back line, only allowing a goal after a penalty kick in the second half. Christian Toney, known by his teammates and friends affectionately as “Croney”, had 7 saves. Christian said, “My number of saves was particularly low for this game because of the hard work of the defenders.” Offensively, Juniors Andy Ramirez and Sophomore Anderson Cobb moved the ball with ease and bypassed Oakwood’s crumbling defense on multiple occasions.
In the last week, this team has received five new players: Linwood Jones, Collin Richardson, Brandon Griffin, Jack Thorp, and Reid Johnston. Newcomer Collin Richardson says, “Although I was not expecting to play soccer this year, I am really happy I have joined the team.” These players are continuing to improve with each practice under Coach Larry Smith and possess great potential. With the addition of these team members, RMA Boys Soccer now possesses a solid foundation for years to come.
Overall, the Eagles have a winning record of 4-3 and an undefeated conference record of 2-0. Coach Larry Smith said that the players, “Played really well as a team” and later said that the team’s main issue is communication. With improved communication on the field, Coach Smith is confident that the team’s record would continue to improve.
