RMA Club Sign-ups Begin

Belle Rose signs up for FCA

The 2014-2015 school year at Rocky Mount Academy is in full swing. This week club sign-ups took place in the cafeteria during break and lunch. RMA offers a broad selection of clubs ranging from C.A.R.E club, a bully prevention group, to Stock Market club, where students learn about what is happening on Wall Street. Every club meets on a designated day during flex: Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Clubs are designed to engage students in current events taking place in RMA, the community, and the world. Lindy Pittman, a member of Chorus and Key club, describes her club experience as “a great way to unwind from classes with your friends while doing something you’re interested in.”

RMA currently offers fourteen clubs. The most popular are FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), Key Club, and Chorus (See Dr. Wells for a full list of clubs). There are a number of new and exciting clubs that have recently been added. Model United Nations, advised by Ms. O’Brien, is among them. Model UN is a club dedicated to giving students an opportunity to learn and solve international issues on a competitive, real world stage. Student leader, Davis Brown expresses his excitement about the club going public for all high school students saying, “we had some solid participation last year and had a good beginning to Model UN. Our goals this year are to really get the ball rolling by participating in some competitions and getting more involvement.” While there have been new clubs added just this year, there are quite a few returning. The Key Club, one of RMA’s largest clubs, is one of them. The Key Club’s mission is to provide money to charities and organizations that can better the lives’ of others. The Key Club serves our school and community through fundraising. A few of these fundraising events are held every year that benefit an important cause while bringing all students at RMA together. President Claire Stanovich has high hopes for this year, saying, “I feel as though Key Club will have a great year.  I cannot wait for everyone to participate in all that is in store.” Another popular club is Chorus. Chorus has undergone several changes from last year; such as receiving a new director, Mr. Leonard. With new insight, chorus will perform at several school sponsored events throughout the year like the Holiday Concert, Spring Arts Festival, and others. Chorus will continue to brighten events throughout the 2014-2015 school year.

Clubs are a great way to get involved as a student at Rocky Mount Academy. With a great selection, you are sure to find a club involving your interests. “I feel like anyone can bring something to the table in any club, even if it’s just enthusiasm,” says Jackson Browder. Do not be shy RMA, sign up for a club or two that you are interested in and get involved with current events in our school!
