A name known by everyone at RMA is Marcus Lerro. His sense of humor and incredible personality make him a standout of this year’s senior class. Marcus came to RMA in 4th grade, but might as well be a “lifer” in the eyes of his RMA family. Without Marcus, the senior class would have a huge hole in it that could not be filled.

Marcus not only challenges himself in school, but does extremely well in his classes. He already has quite a few AP classes under his belt including AP United States History, AP European History, AP Environmental Science, and AP Biology, and this year he is taking AP Physics, AP Psychology, AP Government and Politics, AP Statistics, and AP Calculus. These challenging courses have given Marcus a platform to showcase his academic skills, which he has done very well. His performance in school has earned him a spot in National Honor Society where he is also the treasurer. Marcus is an important participant in Key Club, Youth and Government, and the Global Studies Honors program. His overall presence in the classroom and all around Rocky Mount Academy cannot be missed.

While Marcus shines in the classroom, he also shines on the field. A long time soccer player, Marcus once dreamed of becoming a professional soccer player. Even though that is no longer Marcus’s goal, that does not mean he works any less on the field than he once did. As a captain on the varsity boys’ soccer team this year, Marcus showed both his leadership and soccer skills in a successful season that took the boys to states.

Not only is Marcus an important player in school and in sports, but he also is a great friend to anyone who knows him. Always there with a quick word of encouragement or a funny joke, Marcus is sure to make his friend’s day and never fails to be the life of the party. RMA will miss him next year!

1. What colleges have you applied to so far? Which one are you leaning towards? I’ve applied to UNC and NC State, and I’m going to apply to Wake Forest soon. I’m mostly leaning towards UNC.
2. Growing up, what was your dream job? Growing up, I’d say my dream job was to be a pro soccer player, but I’m long past that now…
3. What are you thinking about majoring in? I’m thinking about majoring in Computer Science. I’ve always enjoyed that kind of field and it would be really useful in life since there are so many technological opportunities available.
4. What is your favorite long lunch destination? Zaxby’s probably.
5. What has been your favorite class you’ve taken at RMA? As of now, AP Physics would have to be my favorite because it’s applicable in everyday life.
6. Do you have a nickname? Ling Ling :~) 
7. What is your pet peeve? When you’re in a quiet room with someone else who is eating food and you can hear every distinct sound of their chewing.
8. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? I see myself eating takeout Chinese food in my apartment.
9. What is one of your proudest accomplishments? The fact that I’m not failing any of my classes right now makes me proud.
10. What is something not many people know about you? You won’t believe this, but I’m actually Asian.
