- The bedsheet ghost
Possibly the most stereotypical Halloween costume, the bedsheet ghosts will be very prevalent on Halloween. Made famous by Charlie Brown and Pigsty in Charlie Brown’s Halloween Special, everyone will recognize your get up. The best part of this outfit is it only requires a bedsheet and some scissors to cut eye holes.
- The toilet paper mummy
This is also an instant classic; that is so simple yet also so effective. There is always that one kid who chooses to dress up last minute and can pull off the mummy impeccably. All it requires is a roll of toilet paper and someone to wrap you up. No one will recognize you while wearing your costume!
- The creepy clown
With the recent uprising of the clown phenomenon taking over the continental United States, this Halloween get up has never been more prevalent or scary. A clown seems like such an innocent costume but can also be so strange. Many people are deathly afraid of clowns, so if you dress up you are bound to get reactions!
- The face mask political figure
Found at Walgreens and target, president or presidential candidate masks have always been a favorite. This election year will for sure bring out some scary candidate masks. Match one of these masks with a suit or a dress, and you have an instant classic.
- The football player/cheerleader
Growing up, I loved throwing on my UGA football pants, jersey, and helmet. It brought in a hefty load of candy every year. Not the scariest by any means, but as a little kid at one time you most likely dressed as either a football player or a cheerleader.
- The pumpkin
There is no better way to show some Halloween spirit, than dressing as the biggest archetype of the holiday. There are multiple ways to go about dressing as a pumpkin. One could simply wear all orange and take the easy route. If one wanted to go all out he/she could buy a round pumpkin costume which may make walking around difficult!
- The witch with a broom
Also appearing in Charlie Brown’s Halloween special is a witch with a broom. This outfit only requires a black hat, broom, and the ability to make a very high pitched creepy laugh. Girls that like to dress scary on Halloween have been going as witches for decades.
- The princess
Nothing makes an elementary school girl happier than dressing up as a princess for Halloween. Whether it be Cinderella, Elsa, Rapunzel, Tiana etc., every year there are always tons of princesses roaming the streets, trick or treating. I am almost certain you will see one this year.
- The scarecrow
Made famous by the movie “The Wizard of Oz”, the scarecrow is timeless. Young men and women have been going as scarecrows for decades now. All you need is a flannel, overalls, face paint and some hay! This costume is not only a classic but is also rather creepy.
- The superhero
Boys everywhere have dressed up as a superhero since superheros were invented. As a kid, I always felt that the boys who dressed up as superheros got more candy and the girls seemed to enjoy their outfit the most. This is a costume that will never go out of style.
