Last RMA vs. Faith Rivalry Games of the Season
May 2, 2016
Tuesday, April 26th our spring sports teams took on Faith Christian for the final rivalry game of the season. The games took place at Faith, and as usual, it was a rather successful day for RMA athletics. The afternoon started off with Varsity Boys Tennis. The tennis team always seems to have a close match with Faith with Tuesday being no different. The match came down to the last court, resulting in in a 4-5 loss for the Eagles. Although it was a heart breaking loss, the team played well and fought hard until the end. Number 3 doubles, Max Collins and Elias Moore, played one of their best matches of the season, finishing with an 8-6 victory. Davis Brown also had a great match in singles winning easily 6-0 and 6-1. The Eagles played hard and were just a one court away from an overall victory.
The Varsity Softball team had a fantastic game beating Faith by the mercy rule 12 – 1. In years past, the patriots typically had the upper hand against RMA, so the lady Eagles were very excited about this victory. All around the Eagles played one of their best games of the season with minimal errors on defense and a strong game offensively all the way through the lineup. Sophomore, Casey Jones, who has been a definite standout all season at the plate and at short stop, hit two out of the park homeruns helping lead to the overall 12 runs. Freshman, Ashely Wright, also contributed to the substantial win pitching the whole game with just a few walks. Overall, the girls were put together and stayed focused the entire game resulting in an all-around phenomenal performance.
The Varsity Soccer team also came away with a victory. They beat Faith 3-2 in overtime with Suzanna Mosley scoring the winning goal. The game stayed close the entire time, both teams playing hard until the end. Senior, Katie Gutshall played a large role in the victory scoring an outstanding goal from outside the penalty box to keep the lady Eagles in the game. This was yet another solid win for this young team.
The Varsity Baseball Game was another typical RMA vs. Faith game- full of tension due to the cross town rivalry. The game was simply unpredictable as both teams have had solid past years, and are at the top of the CIC conference. Unfortunately this time, the Patriots came out on top with a 2-1 victory. The game remained close and tense all seven innings. The Patriots were defensively strong, making little errors not allowing any easy runs. The Eagles matched this defense behind junior pitcher Reid Johnston, who threw yet another great game. Although not coming out with a victory was not a favorable way to go, the Eagles are looking forward to the rest of season and to hopefully make a run in play – offs.
