April 24, 2016
After 30 years of entertainment, pop singer Prince, died at his recording studio, Paisley Park, in Chanhassen, Minnesota on Thursday due to complications from the flu. He was found unconscious in an elevator around 10:00 AM and was pronounced dead only 30 minutes after paramedics had been called. The cause of death and who Prince was with have not yet been released.
Before cancelling two concerts due to health concerns, Prince had to make an emergency landing on his private plane in Illinois due to health reasons. The next day, which was Saturday, May 16th, Prince appeared at a small concert close to his home and reassured fans that he was back to normal and told the crowd, “Wait a few days before you waste any prayers.” If his words weren’t enough, fans were reassured by his vibrant stage presence.
Throughout the eighties, Prince consistently wrote and produced record breaking singles and albums that created what he became known for: the Minneapolis sound, which combined funk, pop, synth, and new wave styles. Unlike many other artists, Prince was involved in a variety of genres and excelled in each. Prince’s performance at his induction to the rock hall of fame alongside Tom Petty and others showed his excellence in rock and ability to hang with the greats of the genre, especially during his epic guitar solo. Prince’s wide range of entertainment abilities doesn’t stop there, since his rise to the top in the Eighties, he has acted in many movies and even started his own record label in Minneapolis.
This past year, Prince has been on tour throughout the US and also has put on multiple impromptu shows, including one in New York City on March 18th, where he announced that his memoir, The Beautiful Ones, will be released in the fall of 2017 and is said to show all parts of his life that are untold. In the aftermath of this untimely death, publicists have said that the book will still be published on time. Since his death was announced, listeners and the many artists that were inspired by his work have expressed shock and support in regards to his untimely death.
