Faculty Focus: Terrell Hudgins
April 16, 2016
This week’s Faculty Focus features Terrell Hudgins, fondly known as Coach T by the students and members of the Rocky Mount Academy community. This is Coach T’s fourth year at RMA, where he served as an assistant football coach to B.W. Holt for the first three and head Varsity Football coach for the 2015/16 school year. Terrell attended high school at Rocky Mount Senior High where he was a football star and the school’s career leader in yards passing, completions, attempts and touchdown passes. Coach T also played college football at Elon University where his jersey was retired, and was temporarily a member of the Dallas Cowboys off-season/practice squad before being signed by the Chicago Rush of the Arena Football League. During his college career, he was awarded Elon University’s top male athlete, Southern Conference Athlete of the Week and Month, and many other numerous honors. Being a high school and college football standout himself, Terrell is able to identify with student athletes in a way that others are not.
Rocky Mount Academy is proud to have Coach T as part of the staff and more importantly a member of the RMA family. There is no doubt that Coach T’s friendly and fun personality is loved by all, from the preschooler giving him a high five to the senior football player asking for advice. Read the short interview below to learn more about the infamous Coach T!
Where did you attend college?
Elon University (Sport Management – degree)
What is your favorite quote?
“No weapon formed against me shall prosper” – Isaiah 54:17
What are your hobbies outside of school?
I don’t have too many hobbies. Just give me the outdoors and I’ll find something to do.
What is a little known fact about you?
I do not have a middle name.
Describe an experience or person who made a large impact on your life.
My parents have made the biggest impact in my life. I’ve had the opportunity to learn from them almost daily the rights and wrongs of the world, and how to treat people with respect.
What is your favorite thing about RMA?
My favorite thing about RMA would have to be the students. They make coming to work so easy.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Having the opportunity to work with the students daily, and to be a positive influence in their lives is the most rewarding part of my job.
What (or who) inspired your career choice?
If any one person or thing were to have an impact on my career choice, it would have to be kids. Being able to give them knowledge (not just in sports), and being able to learn from them is priceless.
What is a pet peeve of yours?
My biggest pet peeve would have to be people using “your” instead of “you’re”.
Can you describe your life before RMA?
I’d have to say that I’ve had far more better days than I have had in previous jobs. I couldn’t be more grateful for the jobs I had prior to my position here but I’m a kid at heart, so doing what I do now is absolutely amazing.
