Key Club Update
April 11, 2016
With the school year quickly coming to an end, Key Club is starting to plan and get ready for another successful year starting in the fall. Key Club is one of the largest clubs on campus having over 50 high school members. Key Club members stay busy throughout the year planning and having fundraisers to raise money for chosen causes. It is under the advisement of Mrs. Baker–Smith, but is proudly student run by hard working elected officers. This year senior Olivia Turnage was president, seniors Sam Sconyers and Jami Perkins were co – vice presidents, senior Elizabeth Gay was secretary, junior Anna Scott Wingfield was treasurer, and senior Mackenzie Thompson and junior Thomas Moore were co – publicity chairs.
This hard working group spent countless hours organizing meetings, and making sure everything ran as smoothly as they always did. This year Key Club had one of its best years yet with several major fundraisers including the ice cream sale in honor of Holly Fryar (which raised a record-breaking $1400), buying Christmas presents for a less fortunate family through my sister’s house, and an upcoming car wash this month. As a whole, the club has raised thousands of dollars this year making a difference in our local community and on a larger scale as well. The club has one more event this year which is a car wash which will be held on April 30th make sure to stop by!
Looking towards next year the club has already started thinking of some great ideas. Some of the events from this year will take place again such as the ice cream sale for the Holly project. The officers were also elected in key club’s last meeting on this past Tuesday. Candidates were asked to give a short speech, and then the club voted on who would be their officials for the next school year. There were many candidates representing every high school grade. When the votes were counted the final the results were Anna Scott Wingfield as president, Thomas Moore as vice president, Julia High as secretary, Georgia Morris as treasurer, and Emily Cheston as publicity chair. This great club is already geared towards having another successful year in the 2016/ 17 school year Make sure to stay updated on this clubs events and don’t forget to about the car wash on April 30th!
