Top 10 Highlights of Christmas Break 2015
January 11, 2016
With 2015 officially over, it’s time to recollect all the highlights of the two weeks everyone was waiting for since summer: Christmas break.
10) Bowl Games- If you live in a house like mine, football games are a must during Christmas break! If one thing can be said about being out of school for two weeks, it’s that there is not a shortage of football!
9) Newly Released Movies- Many people spent their break at the movie theater. Awesome movies like Star Wars, Creed, Point Break, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Daddy’s Home, and Joy smashed the box office. Additionally, Star Wars just beat out the old-time favorite movie, Avatar, to become the number one greatest film of all time in North America.
8) Pentatonix- Pentatonix is an A cappella group that has become very popular this past year. They are a YouTube sensation and have won many awards including a Grammy earlier in 2015. Some of their top Holiday songs include: Mary, Did You Know, Little Drummer Boy, Silent Night, Carol of the Bells, and White Winter Hymnal.
7) Stop Hunger Now- On Friday, December 18th, all the students of RMA joined together to help make bags of food to go to families in need. It was a great experience based on cooperation and hard work. This event did more than just help out starving people, it taught RMA students to appreciate all they have, especially during the holiday season.
6) New Tradition: PJ’s for Christmas- Pajamas for Christmas is another traditional gift that is coming back in style. Instead of opening an unexpected gift on Christmas Eve, many families have started the tradition of getting PJs. This great idea not only allows families to receive a new pair of comfy PJ’s, but everyone gets some awesome new sleeping gear to show off while opening presents Christmas morning.
5) Weather- A lot can be said about the crazy weather this holiday season. Instead of the white Christmas many people wished for, we received a 75 degree, sun-filled day. Afterwards, the heat wave was followed by extensive rain nonstop for many days and eventually snow on January 4th. No wonder everyone is getting sick!
4) Fitbits- A popular item this Christmas season was the well-known Fitbit. This exciting device allows us to stay physically active and motivated by tracking our activity, exercise, food, weight, and sleep. Maybe with the Fitbit, people will be more encouraged to continue their New Year’s resolutions!
3) News Year’s Eve- New Years is always an exciting time. It gives us a chance to start anew and make this year even better than the last. Many people had fun this New Years at parties and, of course, watching the ball drop in Time Square on television surrounded by friends and family.
2) Hallmark Channel- The Hallmark Channel is a must during the holiday season. Sappy love stories filled with princesses and “happy ever afters” were on every girl’s “must-watch” list. Many tissue boxes and bags of popcorn were used up last December as girls wished a handsome prince from a foreign country would come and sweep them off their feet (Really, why do we do this to ourselves?!).
1) Hoverboard- Perhaps the number one highlight of Christmas break was the Hoverboard. It was a top-selling item that not only brought fun, but laughter. As many of you know, maybe even first handedly (Olivia Turnage), the Hoverboard can be seen across YouTube featuring many viral blowouts, face plants, knocked over Christmas trees, and more. That being mentioned, if the Hoverboard doesn’t have you falling across the floor, you’d better watch for spontaneous ignition!
