Varsity Boys Victory Over Parrott Academy

Julia High, Marketing Chair

Thursday, December 10th, our basketball teams travelled to Kinston to take on Parrott Academy. In addition to the boys’ eagerness to redeem themselves after a tough loss against Grace Christian last week, there is always a little extra tension when we play Parrott. The J.V. boys won a close game, J.V. girls lost a hard fought game by 1 point, and Varsity girls lost by 4 in the last few minutes. Due to the closeness of the other games, the Varsity boys were very anxious to get on the court. Everyone knew playing Parrott wouldn’t be easy, but the boys were up to the challenge. The entire game was close and at a fast pace. The Eagles were led by Junior A.J. Mitchell, who had 22 points and 4 rebounds. A.J. hit several crucial 3 pointers late in the game that helped lead the team to victory. Sophomore, Elijah McCadden added an impressive 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists. Elijah was also a huge threat on defense forcing turn overs and getting several steals. Senior, Brendan Acker led the team in rebounds with 11 and also contributed 13 points. Kyle Holland dominated in the paint with 8 points and was a major force on defense as well. The final score was 64-62 coming down to the final seconds. This was a great win for the Varsity Eagles, as they haven’t been able to defeat Parrott in the past several years. Hopefully this will put them on the right track to be successful in their games this week and in the tournament coming up. Be sure to come to this week’s games, the Eagles play Harrells Christian Academy on Monday and the Australian team on Tuesday.
