Fall Expectations Vs. Reality
November 16, 2015
Everyone looks forward to the fall season but many of the aspects of autumn are not what you might imagine them to be. Join me in exploring the Fall Expectations Vs. Reality that I am sure many of you are familiar with.
Weather
Expectation: Hey it’s November, that means cooler weather and pretty leaves!
Reality: You live in the South. To say the weather is inconsistent would be an understatement.
Candles
Expectation: Collect as many fall-scented candles as possible and light them all over the house.
Reality: Only collect one because they are expensive. Thanks Bath and Body Works…
Thanksgiving
Expectation: Eat all of the yummy Thanksgiving food you have been looking forward to all year.
Reality: Eat all of the yummy Thanksgiving food you have been looking forward to all year.
Black Friday
Expectation: Deals on deals on deals. Christmas shopping, done.
Reality: Complete and utter chaos usually involving the police (at least that’s the case in Rocky Mount).
Hot chocolate:
Expectation: Rich hot chocolate with a huge pile of whip cream.
Reality: It burns your mouth and is watery and gross so you basically burned your mouth for nothing.
Carving pumpkins
Expectation: Knocks out Pinterest perfect jack-o-lantern in 15 minutes with no sweat.
Reality: You accidently cut a piece you weren’t supposed to, make a huge mess, and end up throwing it away after working on it for eleven hours.
Fuzzy Socks
Expectation: These socks will keep my feet super warm!
Reality: Constantly slipping and falling because they literally have zero grip. Ouch.
Blankets
Expectation: I can wrap up in all of these blankets to be super cozy and warm tonight!
Reality: Wake up in the middle of the night covered in sweat ready to throw those blankets off.
Leaf piles
Expectation: Make the largest pile of leaves you have ever seen and can imagine yourself gracefully jumping in whilst taking artsy pics for Instagram.
Reality: Leaves do not give much cushion but do give off a lot of dirt. Not cute and also painful.
Fashion
Expectation: The cooler weather and new season excites every girl and gives her an excuse to wear riding boots, scarves, Barbour jackets, and sweaters that have been pinned all summer!
Reality: Dressing up for school? No one has the time or energy to do that so leggings and sweatshirts are the go-to outfit.
Pumpkin Spice
Expectation: Buying and eating anything that is pumpkin spice flavored, including the infamous PSL and the lesser known pumpkin spice ice cream.
Reality: AHH it’s so sweet I can’t! Why do I pretend to like this?
