“Welcome James. It’s Been a Long Time…and, Finally, We Are Here”
Media Office Review of SPECTRE
November 10, 2015
After much anticipation, on November 6th, the twenty-fourth 007 James Bond movie, Spectre (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion), premiered. Following many remarkable “Bonds”, tops actors include: Roger Moore and Sean Connery, Daniel Craig had a lot to live up to. Being James Bond for the fourth time, critics call Craig “the best Bond since Connery”. However, Craig’s time as Bond will be short-lived as he has declared he is ready to “put the role behind him” and step down. The question now is: Who will be the next 007?
Spectre began with an elaborate scene of Dia de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead) in Mexico. The streets were crowded with walking skeletons and people dressed all out for the special occasion. Within the first five minutes, people are killed, a romantic fling is presented, a building is blown up, Bond is faced with immediate death, and the new theme song by Sam Smith, “Writing’s on the Wall”, was introduced. All-in-all the movie consisted of exciting car chases, Bond drove one of the ten Aston Martin DB10s, a thrilling snow scene, and a lot of action. The plot was driven by a mission given by the previous leader of MI6, the deceased M.
Spectre definitely had its ups and downs. There were a few slow areas where not much action happened and there was a lot of dialogue. Spectre could have benefited from cutting the slow areas out, taking away from the exhausting 2.5 hour movie. Throughout the entire movie, there was a good blend of mixing old characters and plots with new ones. There was even a battle between the old versus new organizations. Of course, in the end, Bond returned to retrieve his much beloved car, the DB5, the perfect attribute to Sean Connery.
