Where did you attend college?
I started college at UNC-G and finished at East Carolina University.
What are your hobbies outside of school?
When I’m not doing school work, I really enjoy playing tennis, walking early in the morning, and working out at the gym.
What is the most difficult part of your job?
The most difficult part of my job is not having enough time to teach everything I want my students to learn.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is being able to interact with seven- and eight-year-old children. They are honest and have a refreshing outlook on life.
What is your favorite quote?
My favorite quote: “Quit running with that stick, or you’ll put out your eye!” (That’s a joke. I don’t have a favorite quote.)
What is a little known fact about yourself?
Not everyone knows that I haven’t had a soft drink in 35 years, BUT I can eat a dozen doughnuts in ten minutes and then eat a whole jar of marshmallow cream after that.
Describe an experience or person who made a tremendous impact on your life.
What has had a tremendous impact on my life? I’ve experienced a few tragedies, but each one made me realize that life goes on and should be appreciated and enjoyed. Never give up on life!
What is a pet peeve of yours?
I have a LOT of pet peeves–just ask my second graders, but one of my major pet peeves is seeing people chew gum. It is NOT a good look!
What is your favorite type of music?
I LOVE music, but my favorite is classic hard rock. I can listen to Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, and Black Sabbath all day.
What (or who) inspired your career choice?
I had a fabulous third-grade teacher and was do inspired by her that, after that, all I wanted to do was teach. As a matter of fact, I loved my third-grade teacher so much that I dated her son in college in hopes that one day she could be my mother-in-law. But THAT didn’t work out!
What is your favorite thing about Rocky Mount Academy so far?
My favorite thing about RMA so far? Well, I’ve only been here 38 years, so it’s difficult to know yet!
