Kyle Holland: Extra Effort Award
This past week, Rocky Mount Academy was proud to announce that our very own Kyle Holland had won the coveted Extra Effort Award presented by WRAL.
Some of you may know Tom Suiter from Football Friday, a show where he highlights the night’s football games across the state. The Rocky Mount native also has a segment where he presents an athlete with the “Extra Effort Award”, awarding them for their success on the field and off the field.
Senior Kyle Holland was given the award last week to reward his efforts in the classroom and on the field. Kyle, a 3 sport athlete throughout high school, has won multiple MVP and All-Conference awards in football, basketball, and baseball. Last year, he was awarded All-State for football, as he was one of the key players on defense and stepped up to replace injured quarterback Brice Andracchio, ultimately leading the team to another state championship. This year, Kyle was named the starting quarterback and has led the Eagles to some difficult wins in a tough conference.
Kyle’s success is not limited to the field. He has taken part in numerous AP classes and is a member of the National Honor Society, qualifying by having at least a 4.0 weighted GPA. In 2014, he was awarded the Turner Battle Scholar by RMA, a scholarship given to students who succeed in academics and show school spirit.
On Thursday, Tom Suiter and his cameraman arrived at RMA, ready to film. The RMA community was excited to see a “TV Star” on their campus, and took any measures they had to make it on TV. After several interviews and action shots of Kyle, the segment just needed a few touch ups before it was ready to air.
