RMA Boys Soccer Dominates in Conference
Last week the Rocky Mount Academy Eagles’ Varsity Soccer team began their conference slate after a blow out win over cross town rival Faith Christian the week before. The Eagles hosted The Epiphany School from New Bern and travelled to Henderson to face Crossroads Christian. They were able to come out of the week unscathed and improved their conference record to 3-0-1.
Tuesday, Epiphany came to town in search for an upset win. After an early own goal, the Eagles found themselves up 3-0 thanks to Senior Grayson Reams’ 2 goals. They went into halftime up 4-1, but looked to increase their lead. The second half scoring began with Senior Brendan Acker’s goal off of a beautiful pass from Junior Anderson Cobb. Freshman Thomas Boyette was able to add to the score, making it 6-1, after placing the ball right past the keeper. Brendan Acker and Sophomore Miller Berry added one more goal each before the game finally ended in an 8-2 blowout.
Friday, the varsity soccer team travelled to Crossroads Christian in hopes of going 2-0 for the week. The game started sloppy with bad touches and bad passes, but Senior Grayson reams was able to overcome the bad conditions and put one in the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. Grayson was able to net another goal and Junior Anderson Cobb added a goal off of a great pass from Sophomore Marcus Lerro. The Eagles went into halftime up 3-0 but knew they left many chances on the field. The second half started just as sloppy, as the offense could not string passes together and keep possession. Despite the bad play offensively, the defense, led by Seniors Davis Brown and Noah Hux, and Goalkeeper Hunter Franks, were able to stay poised and stuff any run Crossroads had. Finally, after a slow start, Senior Brendan Acker was able to start the second half scoring. The soccer team was able to win 5-0, but not before losing Senior and Captain Andy Ramirez to an injury. After being asked about Andy’s injury, Sophomore Marcus Lerro responded “I hope he can rest over the weekend and be ready Monday. Playing in the middle without him will make the job a lot harder.”
The Eagles hope to continue their hot streak at home Tuesday against the non-conference foe Dash United and Thursday against conference rival and defending conference champion Kerr Vance.
